A friend of mine, her husband is a top surgeon so she built a humongeous home, and had dark stained floors and painted the entire entry and main living areas in BM Camoflage...so incredibly gorgeous! It gave off just a hint of color in the sage range...definitely not brown. I loved it so much I painted my living room in it...LOL Well, my living room is small and has bad light and it is a very dark room now.. I love the color Camoflage, but you need a room with lots of light for it to work well, because otherwise you end up in a cave like me. I will be repainting it this spring with something lighter. :)

Is there something above that would tell me if it leans gray. You are correct. Chroma tells you how close to a neutral white, gray or black (the grayscale) a color is. It's called the whiteness, grayness or blackness characteristic of a color. MT's Chroma is 1.48 and Jute is 1.42. So Jute is just a snidge more grayed than MT. Or you could reverse it and say MT is just a snidge more colorful than Jute. Sometimes when people perceive a characteristic of grayness they'll call it a "gray undertone". When they perceive a characteristic of whiteness, they'll sometimes call it "chalky". Whiteness, grayness, blackness is not only technically correct, I think it's a lot more specific and simpler. As far as warm and cool, every color in context of its color system can be categorized as inherently warm or cool. In the example above, once you get to the 5Y mark in the yellow hue family, the colors start to shift to the cool side. Every color in a color system has a warm side and a cool side. With color temperature, odds are the inherent color temperature of a color will hold true. But context matters, the light matters. In situ with other contents of a room, a color that's warm in context of its color system could take on a cool role - or vice versa a color that's inherently cool could take on a warm role. Puts the color in context of its hue family and illustrates chroma; maybe makes the whiteness, grayness, blackness scale I'm talking about easier to see/understand.

I would get samples. Sometimes people have reported Kilim to have band aid look. Kilim has a slight green undertone compared to my BM Shaker Beige walls (they have a red undertone). If you start comparing paint chips with other chips you'll be able to see undertones. I have another room painted Manchester Tan and it's a very nice color. A little lighter than Kilim and has a subtle green undertone, but I honestly had a hard time even seeing it until I tried to determine what it was. If you're unsure, and looking to stay away from fleshy colors, I'd pick Manchester for sure. It is slightly putty looking and a little cooler, but no flesh tones. I was just going to add I'm glad your DH went and bought the actual BM Manchester Tan. I too have learned the hard way not to attempt to match BM paint colors with other brands. It's not that other brands don't have good paint, its the way BM colors are made. You can probably match just about any other paint brand color with a BM paint, but it really is not a good idea to take a BM paint color and match to a different brand. My BM Elmira White match with a SW paint turned out with ugly pink undertones which I didn't catch until everything had been painted and then it couldn't be undone. I've had to live with it for years thinking it was just not the right paint color only to get the actual BM paint and find that no, it was the SW match. The real BM color is beautiful and I will now be repainting with it unless I choose another color. It's frustrating because most painters work with SW paint because it is easy to find. But I love BM and will just have to pay up for it.
