Just can't decide what to do with these spaces in my front yard
Comments (2)The magnolia was the most worthwhile addition, as it breaks up the front of the house (in the view shown). Truth be told, there are a dozen things I would change, starting with the balls marching up to the one undersized window right in the middle, and emphasizing it. Anyway, if you like daylilies try to get some evergreen ones like garden centers get from Monrovia nursery as these may be more tidy of leaf than the ones that die down each fall. Your existing garden is so tidy I think you might be bothered by the sloppiness of those in the latter category. Otherwise, maybe get more of the successful red rose and plant those where the existing one is. Make your own from fall cuttings of the specimen you have already if you have to. The creeping junipers look like they have picked up that blight they get and may now go on to die out, giving you a new space for a big sweep of daylilies or some other change. You might want to bring in a designer or consultant to review the existing plantings and tell you how you can make the garden more like what you want. And since, as is often the case the front of the house is not symmetric you should think about discontinuing the matching, evenly spaced pairs of trees and formalizing maintenance shearing of the trees and shrubs. Formal shearing and symmetric balance don't go with asymmetric architecture of your house....See MoreCan't decide between side by side or French door!
Comments (15)I'm pondering the same question: SxS vs FD. Despite the narrow issue, the following keeps pulling me towards the SxS. First: the FD reminds me of the chest freezer we used to have. Stuff just kind of finds it's way to the bottom, no matter how hard you try, and it gets lost. True, they have them with 2 drawers now, but the bottom one is still deep enough for this to occur. Second: my SIL bought my MIL a bottom freezer. Then she injured her back and couldn't get ANYTHING out of the freezer -- my husband has a back issue and I need him to get his own waffles for as long as possible. I've measured the widest items in our freezer and frig, and take a measuring tape with me when I look at appliances. So far the sxs seem to fit what I typically have. TYPICALLY. Brining the thanksgiving 14 lb bird could be an issue, though. I think we'll end up with a s by s with a little upright chest freezer in the garage. The thanksgiving bird may end up in the cooler with ice packs....See MoreHELP - I need help deciding on storm door/front door combo color.
Comments (3)Front doors should stand out and be welcoming, color that pops. You could try something like a Raspberry Truffle in the reds, or maybe a Bermuda Blue....See MorePlease help! I can't decide on exterior house colours.
Comments (2)Rachel, use the same roofing on your garage as the house. If you dont blend your new garage into what you have on the house, its not going to look like it belongs with your house on your property. Try to have siding, and roofing, and windows, all as close to the house as your can....See MoreUser
