Water less, spray won't work because they are like flying in the air, I know sprays don't work on them. Maybe try a fly trap, but watering less will take care of it.

The Japanese Beetles have been shut down with the insecticide/anti-fungal spray. I plan on pruning the roses tomorrow and vacuuming up the fallen leaves. Then, I plan on putting down some miracle grow to give a little boost and then spread some fertilizer for long term. Thanks for everyone's advice. I look forward to a fall of beautiful rose bushes and bright beautiful blooms. I will take a picture and post when the blooms come back. I have a rose that has been in my family for at least 100 years. I want to identify what kind of rose it is. Its blooms are big and white and are full of fragrance.

A photo would definitely help but I doubt what you are describing is any kind of fungus. First fungus is not "removable" in the common context (other than by pruning out) but an insect known as scale is. Scale - of which there are many kinds - is typically a hard-shelled sucking organism that if present in sufficient populations can cause the decline and often ultimately the death of infested plants. Scale is not the easiest insect pest to control - those hard shell casings prevent contact with a lot of insecticides and/or predators so timing is key. Once you have identified the specific insect (by posting photos here or Googling) you can then research the correct timing during the lifecycle to apply an appropriate insecticide.

Where do you live and are you sure they are not more on the brown side? We live in Northern Illinois and have a bunch of brownish ones in our basement every fall and some make it upstairs before they curl up and die. Our back yard is farm land so, bugs, mice, Coyote, and you name it are a way of life. This fall for some reason, these little brownish things (centipede, millipede, I don't know), in a two day period there were thousands of them coming out of the field and crawling across the patio heading for the house. The first day, you couldn't walk on the patio without stepping on a few for each step. I had no idea what to do but we had an old can of Ant spray, they curled up and died. I went and bought another 2 cans, sprayed the foundation and so far, even with rain, so the ant spray is probably washed away, I only found two of them in the basement this year. Now, if the mice were so easy. There are none in the house but in the last 3 weeks, the mousy murder toll in the garage is up to 26. None in two days so it might be over. I love rodents, had pet mice and hamsters, I just don't want them eating my house. LOL
