I'm just trying to laugh over this - granite seams nightmare!
Comments (29)It looks a lot better. I a glad they were able to improve it. Marion, I had the same choice as you regarding seam at sink or seam in corner. I opted for seam in corner and I'm happy I did. The corner in my kitchen is a less conspicuous spot. If the seam was at the sink, I'd be looking right at it all the time. And what if the seam was not perfect Like so many have expressed here. Also, my friend has her granite seamed at the sink and a plumbing issue cause the granite to shifts bit. They wanted her to sign a release of liability to realign it so that if the granite broke, the repair man was not responsible. That was another reason I chose the corner. Not as much risk of shifting above my lazy Susan....See MoreHow about a new thread on 'first meal'? I'm there!
Comments (22)Funny, what I made tonight was essentially that spinach kugel, only in parts. I made a "poor man's spinach souffle", as we call it, with chopped greens and spinach and a couple eggs and ricotta, s/p & nutmeg mashed together and baked. no butter ;) And then I boiled some potatoes so it occurred to me, mixing them together on my plate, that this is essentially the same thing. Minus the cuisinart. It wasn't the wording I was poking fun of but, um -- I'm not an English major, something about the agreement or modifiers in the sentence -- anyway, it reads as if the cuisinart falls apart! Here: I put the cheese in the Cuisinart with the steel blade and and pulse till it falls apart, add the eggs and pulse, then the potatoes. I keep it coarse, not totally smooth. -- the sentence just sounded as if you tossed that stuff in the cuisinart and then the cuisinart fell apart! I knew what you meant of course, just did a literary double-take. Does it drive you crazy cleaning a cuisinart? Or do you get used to it? Until this kitchen, I've never had space to de-box my cuisinart (which was given to me in 1979!), so use it very rarely indeed. I could, I suppose, leave it set up now but ... never having used it regularly I don't feel the urgency. It seems as if it would be a royal p-i-a to keep clean, but ignorance is bliss. thoughts?...See MoreI'm Trying, Really.
Comments (28)The bread looks wonderful! You did good, and that 'mushroom' top is just part of a beautiful home made bread! I learned how to make home made bread as a child, working with my mom, without a recipe. That's still how I make bread most of the time. Flour, a little salt, and a little sugar go into a large bowl in the kitchen sink (one of those huge tupperware bowls is great). I make a 'mountain' of the flour then make a hole in the center (like a volcano). Warm water, yeast, and a little sugar are mixed together in a glass measuring pitcher and allowed to 'work'. This gets poured into the vulcano along with vegetable oil and the contents of the center of the dish stirred with a wooden spoon until it is sticky dough. Then, in go the bare hands to start kneading. I don't stir in the flour around the edge of the bowl. That's what keeps the dough from sticking to the bowl and as I knead, it eventually gets worked in. By that time the oil in the dough is helping prevent it from sticking to the bowl but I do sprinkle in a little more flour if needed. I've never used a bread baker. Wish I had one to try, but I suspect it would be one more appliance that sits on the shelf and takes up space most of the time. Any more, I do often use the Kitchen Aid to mix and knead bread dough rather then doing it by hand. And I sometimes use a recipe, mostly for variety. I haven't made bread since last year before Christmas. I'm feeling the urge coming on now... wish I didn't have to work today!...See MoreRoses today.... I'm trying again...
Comments (23)Thanks so much once again... you all have lovely gardens, including yours Trish, I've seen them.. but I know what it's like, sometimes I see a rose in another member's garden and think that I'd never grow it so well, so no point in me trying .. Lisa, yes my foxgloves self sow, but I also grow fresh for the following year.. I like to choose my colours... I was impressed that you knew the grass, I'm not sure I would have known that.. I like it as it does well in sun or shade... Carol... yes I got a bit of practice in there... thanks again......See MoreJasdip
