Are you quilting this weekend? April 25-27
Comments (21)Happy birthday, Thersa. Enjoy your holiday. I'm just going outside to power wash my sailboat which is sitting in my driveway. I hate, hate, hate this job. I have to climb up a ladder to get into the boat and then wrestle with hoses and stumble around stepping over ropes and other fittings all about 7 feet over the driveway. I always think about falling off. Besides, it's only 46 degrees outside. I'll be dressed up in foul weather gear and boots, and I'll be getting wet. Yuck! Got to get it done, because our first race is May 15, and she still needs to be launched and rigged. Good thing I love sailing so much. Later, I hope to keep working on my husband's quilt. I have 19 of the 32 main blocks finished. Maybe a little FMQ on my scrap quilt too. Oh, and we have a new grandson, Marshall Ronald, born April 24, 8 pounds, 8 ounces. Now I can finish the Peekaboo Monkeys label....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? April 26-28
Comments (21)Magothyrivergirl - I know I've seen ideas on how to keep cats from using areas as their litter box, so I don't know if any of these would help: -There are a number of household foods that felines absolutely detest. Some of these products include orange peels, coffee grounds, and cayenne pepper. Create a mixture in a large cup using any three or all three of these ingredients adding water to make a solution. Take this crazy concoction and sprinkle along the perimeter of the sandbox play area and the cat will turn nose and tall away once he or she gets a whiff of this new barrier. You will have to re-apply this solution every few days due to wearing away by rain and the sun. -One of the best devices available for keeping cats out of the sandbox or even yard is a water sprinkler triggered by a motion sensor. These devices can be found online and are one of the most humane ways of keeping cats out of the yard. A few soakings of cold water will be enough to deter the neighborhood cat from urinating or burying fecal matter in the sandbox, garden or even yard. -Line the outer edges of your sandbox with tinfoil. Tinfoil is shiny, makes a funny noise and slippery. Cats do not like to walk or stand on tinfoil and will avoid it if they get the chance. -Place a row of garden basil around your sandbox on all four edges. The row should be short enough so that your children can step over it. Cats do not like the smell of basil and will avoid areas where it is planted. I don't know if any of those are useful for you but they were things I would not have thought of! Karlene...See MoreCrazy weather weekend this past weekend (4/24-4/26)
Comments (3)I have a bone dry bed full of tepary beans that has been planted for two full month without one sign of life. I hear that in the wild they sit and wait for the summer rains, but that cold rain two days ago dampened the dust about six inches down. I wonder if that will kick them into life, if it's not enough, or if they've been quietly eaten by now by little beasts of various sorts. Experimenting, just experimenting......See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? July 24-26
Comments (18)I just glue basted the Morning Star 2 lotto block quilt from August 2013. I've decided to give it to my brother-in-law and his bride for their August wedding. I'm also cutting the wedges for a spiral Christmas tree skirt for my step-daughter. Next Monday, I'm taking my granddaughter out fabric shopping. She asked for a quilt for her new bedroom, so we're going to a couple of new (for me) shops in her neighborhood. I hope she's patient. The pattern she picked is an argyle pattern, so I need a light, medium and dark of one color; a dark and medium of a second color; an accent color, and a light and medium neutral. The pattern was in the Winter 2014 issue of Fons & Porter's Easy Quilts. I had to enlarge it from a lap quilt to an oversized twin. My LAQ called and I'm meeting her to pick up my nephew's quilt next Thursday. I'm really anxious to see how it turned out. It's a very unusual quilt. Seems like I've got a lot going on all of a sudden. I hope everyone has a great weekend....See MoreUser
