Any idea which caterpillars these are?

We are thinking brown moth as they have two distinctive spots. We have 4 big nests dotted around the garden. I have 2 small children and a cat so am concerned about having such big nests in the garden. Any idea what I should do?

Tent caterpillars of some sort. Harmless, and kinda fun for kids and cats, but they'll eat a lot off your trees before they're done. Probably best to cut them down and trash them (just to prevent a lot of damage to the trees, not because they're dangerous).

Tent caterpillars for sure, and they can sure strip a tree when their numbers are large like that. Though they do have sprays that will address them, cutting them out and disposing of them is better. Some birds like Cuckoos love hairy caterpillars, so poisoning them can have detrimental affects on birds.

Hmm, appears that no one seems quite sure. Upon further research of C. radicans, I found a number of different takes. For example: Ceropegia cf radicans ssp smithii -- which indicates that this should be "cf"/compared to or consider to possibly be a form or subspecies of C. radicans. Then in another source, it was noted that many botanists consider flowering plants like this to be a ssb or variety of C. radicans. Still others believe it to be a naturally occurring hybrid of C. sandersonii x C. radicans as there have been hybrids made of these two which strongly resemble the flower my plant has. If it has a permanent woody framework, then not an intersectional. They have tree peony flowers emerging from an herbaceous base :-) In the past, all tree peonies originated from China and a brief online glance at a photo catalog shows multiple cultivars that look very similar to yours. Do you have a UK peony society you could send photos to for a closer ID?

Tricky. They hybridise happily so you might never know. Looks as if it has Salix cinerea blood.

Some sort of tent caterpillars.

If you rip open the tents, the birds will take care of them.

Charlie, do you mean browntail moth caterpillars? It might be more helpful if we could see a good picture of the caterpillars.

A browntail caterpillar is loaded with irritating hairs, but most tent caterpillars are not like that.

We also need to know your general location.

Tent caterpillars....we take a propane torch and burn them.
