Where are they now? (Francis Dubreuil & other MIA roses)
Comments (572)The concern I have is the rush to assume that a found red Tea may be FD, while there are other "lost" red Teas. If you do an advanced search on HMF for red Teas, you'll find quite a few whose scant descriptions and few illustrations could also be possibilities. For example..... http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=21.60704 Or, perhaps this one, which was actually sold in Australia: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=21.60962 Also, trace 'Papa Gontier' back a few generations and you'll see some other lost red Teas. I think we may be biased toward finding the true versions of roses whose names have been misapplied to others because we want to correct these errors. But those aren't the only possibilities. Regardless, that's some good detective work, Virginia. :-) ~Christopher...See MoreOlder vs. newer
Comments (20)I had a gorgeous Pope John Paul bloom today - I would photo it tomorrow...but I am going to Tyler to Chamblees....cant wait! A red that I love is Alec's Red - smells just great and beautiful blooms. The McCartney Rose is a bloom machine and very fragrant. Honeysweet, a Buck rose, is an unusual color and big bloom. Carding Mill by Austin is a favorite. About Face is a beauty - my bush is huge and blooms lots. Dorcas, another Buck, is a real winner - always has blooms, hybrid tea form. Chuckles is a complete standout in my yard - in hot, full sun and is sort of a neon pink with a white eye - always in bloom and you can see it a mile away - Chamblees has it. Belinda's Dream is a perennial favorite......Sparkle & Shine is a pretty new yellow. Could go on and on......so many nice ones....See Moretrash pullout opener- 'hip bump' vs foot pedal
Comments (19)I bought the toe kicker, but my cabinet guy decided to ignore it. Basically, he didn't want to do the custom work that was required for me to use it--even though I kept asking, "can we please make this toe kicker work?" I'm ticked about it! I'm pretty sure it was designed for inset drawers. In that case, when the drawer/door is closed, it is closed all the way. In order to use it on an overlay unit, "closed" would indeed be about 1/16th of an inch. Also, the unit is a space hog behind the drawer (it is a couple inches long). I think this is why my cab guy didn't want to hassle with it. The trash box wasn't deep enough, and he would have needed to cut some of the back away... It has a very tight spring to it. You have to push it hard to click it. But I think it only opens an inch or so. Then you use your foot to pull the cab open. As it turns out, my cab opens so easily, I don't need the kicker. I can just use my pinky. If my husband ever installs it, I'll try to video it. Btw, the gizmo is about 5 bucks, but the shipping is more than that! Grrrr. I think it was about 12 bucks total. Maybe a bit more. Francy...See MoreDisease Resistance vs Fragrance
Comments (14)Some of my HTs that are lovely, very fragrant, and bs resistant: Valencia, Oklahoma, Berolina, Memoire (Ice Cream), Elle, Peter Mayle. I should add, that "bs resistance" does not mean BS free--especially when applied to hybrid teas. However, for hybrid teas, the above ones are fragrant and fairly good on bs resistance. For fragrant and bs resistant shrubs, there are Austin's Lady of Shalott, Munstead Wood, Pretty Jessica, and some people think Jubilee Celebration is although I have some problems with bs on mine (not a disease-magnet, however). A number of Austin's more recent roses are also fragrant and good on bs resistance. Others: Well Being (modern shrub); older roses: Souvenir de la Malmaison and its almost identical twin Mystic Beauty. Some claim the hybrid perpetual Mrs. John Laing is both very fragrant and bs resistant, but mine has some (but not a lot) of bs problems. Several of my hybrid musks are fragrant and reasonably bs resistant. There are also some roses with only moderate fragrance and good bs resistance--ought to do in a pinch. : ) Hope that helps.
