Comments (5)"I've been wondering if I need to let the medium dry out more before I water & refill the resevoir." This is a typical and frequent response to the issue of some plants not doing well in s/h. Personally I don't think it is a very effective strategy, here's why: when you finally water the reservoir, even if you have let it go dry one, two maybe even more, days at that point the plant is going to be wet for several days until the reservoir goes dry again. Those several days of consecutive wetness, if being consecutively wet for several days was a problem would be more than enough to cause problems and the momentary relief every week or so will not be enough to prevent decline. On the other hand, if the plant can tolerate a full cycle of wet reservoir to empty it should be able to tolerate an immediate topping up of said reservoir. If it can't the answer is to find out why not and fix that rather than to attempt a frustrating schedule of watering that will alternately soak and parch the roots. This is a long way of saying that something other than the S/H or how it is being watered needs to be adjusted for the paph. You already know what I think the top contenders for modification are. Comments (29)Nick, Received my vietnamense from Parkside, it had 1 growth and 3 smallish leaves. Made my older vietnamense (has 1 growth and 5 leaves which are @2" longer than Parkside's) from Orchids.com/Norman's look downright 'BIG'... I also got a P. charlesworthii, a blooming medicalcar decoratum, a P. Norito Hasagawa and a blooming slightly variegated leaved phal. The charlesworthii was in bad shape, but when I contacted Parkside, they stated they would make it good after the 1st of the year. I did notice it was no longer listed on their website either, so I may have gotten one of the last ones. As long as they keep their word on the charlesworthii, I'll be pretty happy. The other 4 were in very good shape. Bob...See MoreMy name is ** and I'm a trading slut.
Comments (18)Sorry Troy, but the masdie moved on (traded, not killed). Did Kevin get that one? I can't remember... Partially chewed...that must be the era of the monster puppy. Still have her. She doesn't chew on the plants anymore, she just runs away if she can (orchids are sooo much easier! they stay where you leave them!). Actually, when I gave upon my masdies (I had several), and dismantled the special tank that I set up for them, that's when the fans became available that quinnfyre now has! It just proved to be more time and effort that I wanted to give. The last plant from that era was a drac that recently moved out via ebay. At least I was able to finally bloom that drac! Not so for the masdies! And for those wondering about trading... A good trade can be almost anything! That's why garage sales work so well - stuff that you no longer want can be gold to the right person! Carolyn...See MorePaph Ang-Tong etc
Comments (3)Most of them are in a warmer section of the cold greenhouse. These are mostly the mottled leaf ones and of course all of the Phrags. Others are in the warm house, none of them are outside. Nick...See Morearthurm2015
