Advice growing Raspberries in Southern California?
Comments (3)I think it may be a bit late for raspberries - but I found mine at Home Depot about a year ago. Being able to buy plants when they first come into the store, seems to work fairly well for me. Boysenberries are going great guns this year in my location. These were on the property when we moved in almost 40 years ago, and have produced well since. Just purchased a thornless blackberry (Home Depot again) and it seems to be adjusting here. Just my 2 c's. Bejay...See Morepeonies and temp requirements in southern California
Comments (1)You probably have enough chilling hours. Call your local county extension service and ask for the average chilling hours where you live. 400 hours is considered minimum for consistent blooming. You will need to plant herbaceous peonies high enough that the buds for next years stems are not buried and are visible during the winter. Al...See MorePeonies will bloom in Southern California!
Comments (8)Do not be discouraged if you do not get flowers this year, or maybe not next year. Peonies take time to grow roots large enough to support flowering. It looks from your photo like you are growing in a container with competing plants in the same space. Peonies grow extensive roots that will easily fill the container the first year. As peonies will be in the same soil for many years think about a soil mix that will hold up. Good soil advice for containers can be found on the container forum. If you have garden space, it will be much happier there, in the full sun. Al...See MoreFirst try at growing from seeds in Southern California
