Need help IDing and offset question

Heya, if anyone could help me figure out what these succulents are and how best to replant the high up offsets they are both producing suddenly that would be great :) they are thriving it seems they have grown much bigger too :)

Sempervivum species… don't know much about rooting the offsets of this genus.

Hi Charli. I agree it is some kind of sempervivum. Those chicks will get bigger and eventually develop aerial roots in search of the nearest soil surface. You can either move the entire thing into a bigger pot so they can root at their leisure, or wait until they are bigger, have developed wispy, dangling roots and drying out from that stem attached to the parent plant.

if you can put them outdoors, they'll be much happier. Mine spent winter out there. The deep freeze destroyed the pot but the plants are fine.

If you were dividing them, you would be breaking them apart. So you have given yourself a head start on dividing down the road! The smaller ones may not bloom next year, but they soon will. Almost all my daffodils planted this year were from a hardware store that always has good bulbs. But I bought one package from a local "expensive" nursery. The price was higher than the other store, plus higher than online, but it was a variety that was sold out everywhere else, that I really wanted. When I opened that package, 3/4s had hefty offsets! That made the $$ bulbs a bargain after all. I split off the big ones, really small ones I left attached. I had not seen the offsets through the frosty white plastic. I had picked this package among the bags by hefting them in my hand, picking the heaviest. I think I may go back there!

I grow Schick hybrids, most are not as tall as that one, and darker green, though the spines and ribs seem the same, and the Schick hybrids do have all of the species in them that is mentioned above, including Rebutia. Well not quiet all of them. And they can be figured out by the flower, if you have the flower chart in color to do so. Keep your labels make duplicate copies of them, and put one in the bottom of the pot. Not all of them look alike, some hardly have any spines, and others have long ones, Bob Schick used to tell them apart by looking at them. Sorry for such a long post, Echinopsis are grown just like any other cactus and need the same care, for flowering give them a low 0-20-10 fertilizer approx. The middle number must be higher, the first number very low. No water in the Winter, they must have the chill and dormant periods to flower. They are extremely hardy, will flower 6 mo. at least of the year from the end of April to the end of Sept. depending on you climate, light where you grow them, feeding. I'd suggest you post this over on the Cacti & Succulent forum. Though I'm sure many here grow Sempervivums, you'll get more responses over there. This is how many of the species commonly grow, though. Did you know they are winter hardy? In fact, they do better if put in the ground outside, but you do need to grow them where it drains good, like on a mound. You'll get good advice over on the C&S forum... Denise in Omaha

Nah, I won't throw in the towel because of a few pests - I won't let them bully me ;) I too have found it to be relaxing & a stress reliever, even if it may cause a stroke, lol! Plus I have lots of paper wasps/parasitic wasps, bumblebees, songbirds, etc, to take care of the pests. I do, however, need to find some native plants to attract more as well as plants to keep pests at bay. Being a beginner at roses, as well as having a certain mindset that they are difficult to maintain (as my mother always said but I'm overcoming), I've been babying them, need to let nature do its thing & sit back to enjoy my work thus far. I do thoroughly enjoy everything that comes with it: pruning, dead heading, making my own trellises, I even enjoy watering :) Thanks for the encouragement & input; that's enough to keep me moving forward! Nic P.S. I've checked for pests today & found nothing, but would've let them be if I did ;)

Sempervivums will do much better outside than inside. You have nice plants there but they won't be so nice unless they get lots of light, good drainage and air circulation. The leaves shouldn't be curving down. You can see that even pups are 'twisting' after light (very visible in first photo).
Pups should be growing straight out on longer stalks; these stalks eventually get more brownish. You can actually pull them off then and stick in soil. They root very easily.
I don't have better photo but you can see how they offset - this whole pot (and some more I have) overwinters outside year after year in zone 5b. Those babies got pulled off & stuck in the pot to grow and multiply again.

Btw, bottom (old) leaves eventually dry out & they can be pulled off easily.
