I have the Ivoire formula for Emerald matte on the can and it is correct according to the official recipe for Ivoire paint in a gallon (double checked). The base paint is correct too. But the gallon colour does not even resemble the paint chip or the Color-to-Go. When I discuss the mismatch gallon, I'm directly comparing the paint they gave me spread on the paint chip - and the gallon Ivore was not even close to the same colour as the paint chip. Quite truthfully, it is like a lighter version of Believable Buff - I'd accept it as a match for Believable Buff before I'd accept it as a match for Ivoire!! In terms of how the real Ivoire looks on my walls (the paint chip/Colour-To-Go version, not the mismatched gallon paint), I have painted Ivoire on a lot of test walls, so I have a good feel for how it appears in my house - yellow with apricot undertones and I absolutely love it. This faulty Ivoire looks like a kind of muddy/murky beige-yellow - not the same colour at all. I was flabbergasted when the gallon of Ivoire looked like an entirely different dingy beige colour - even the guy who mixed it thought it did not seem correct but he wanted me to take it home and see how it looked at home in the lighting it would be in.

It's really easy to rub stain into a scratch on a wood door and make it hardly noticeable. I decided against paint for my new kitchen without any children (much less five under five!) and no animals, because I knew there would be scratches and I knew I wouldn't like the resulting "patina". You can paint out scratches a bit, but it's hard with a factory paint job. Factory paint is more durable than brushed paint, but brushed paint is easier to "fix". So... how much do you like the white vs. how much do you hate bumps and scratches? Would you ever consider something as unstylish as melamine? As expensive as lacquer? Do you expect to move or redo your kitchen by the time your kids are in their teens? Or when they're out of the house? Or do you expect this kitchen to survive their childhood?

I'm touching up my kitchen. Reworking things isn't in the budget for a while. But some painting is. Not posting the whole thing right now, just looking for paint suggestions. I have a very small area of backspash that I want to go over in white for now. It's only about 10 4x4 tiles (in two single strips of 5 tiles) in a sort of out of the way spot, so I'm not going to argue about just wanting to go painted white with it for now. I would like it to last a while if I can. There used to be a paint on product to go over tub and tile. Meant to stick to sealed ceramic tile and last for a couple years if treated nice. Now I can only find it in a spray can. I'd rather not have to full mask off 10 tiles worth of space between the window and cabinets for spraying if I can find the paint on version. I realize I can buy the spray cans and spray into a bucket and paint with it- but again, if there is an easier paint of version I'd rather do it.

Sorry, it was late last night when I sent you the two links. I understand the hesitancy. Simply white is the right undertone, but may feel a bit too yellow, a bit too colorful when you are looking at samples vs looking at an entire wall. I also get that painting trim and ceilings is not inexpensive and something you don't want to make a mistake. @Beth H. : is one of the pros who posts often on Houzz and I believe I remember some posts from her where she stated that she had used White Dove and re-painted with Simply White. I think she used it on her Trim, Walls and Ceilings, but maybe she will see this post and chime in. There is not a color out there that works 100% of the time in every home. There is a reason that I didn't pick a ready formulated white and used the color match to icing. Although it is very slight, the difference between Simply White and Icing is that Simply White has a bit of gray added to the yellow, where Icing has orange. Both are very light whites, both give you a touch of warmth to soften the feeling, but I notice the slightest green tinge in Simply White that I don't see when I use Icing. Simply White would be my first choice if I had to choose a white from one of the stock formula whites from BM or SW. I am not sure that anyone would see a difference if I would have chosen Simply White instead of Icing, but my OCD took over the decision making process.
