Daylilies 2015 B
Comments (5)Hi again Arif ....just thought i would mention that sometimes even if a bloom isnt particularly what you want the genetic opportunities that it might offer may be. I keep lots of daylilies not because they are perfect from the get go but because there may be a feature about that plant that could potentially lend its genes to the next generation . This is called a bridge plant . For example let's say i have one plant that isnt particularly spectacular bloom wise , however I keep it because it is tall , strong scaped, multibranching with a really good bud count . I use it to breed with because those are all traits that I want in my seedlings and so I use the pollen to pass on those traits to my seedlings. What I cross it with is what I use to try to put a pretty face on a good strong well branched high bud seedling . Of course many will not have the face or the traits I want in a plant but a few will and that is success. Signet...See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A photo Thread - July 2015 Part II
Comments (39)Molie, I have a few white daylilies, but 'Light the Way' is really quite stunning. I also love 'Delia O'Brian Brown'. Steve, I can smell those lilies through the screen! And I'm sneezing! LOL! I really love the look of lilies, but I'm so allergic to them. Tried them for a couple years but just had too many issues. Then the beetles came.......then I really gave up. Will have to continue to enjoy your great photos! Isn't Marie's garden awesome?! I'm so glad Barb took pics while we were there. One of those gardens that is just so much fun to stroll around and find all the cool stuff planted. Such a wide variety. Claire, my viburnum was flowering beautifully, until they all started to turn brown, shrivel up and fall off. So no berries for me this year. I was just happy that the shrub appears to be OK. I was a little worried when the flowers were giving it up. I really like that carefree delight rose. Soooo pretty. Rooguchi clematis has been a blooming powerhouse for weeks. It doesn't show much sign of slowing down yet. Mohawk viburnum with its beautiful berry display. I love the way they change colors over time. Sorry for the blurry photo. I really need to ditch my point and shoot and go back to my D-SLR. But you get the idea. It's loaded with berries.....and the birds and critters never eat them. The daylily bed never disappoints. Delphiniums are now all cut down in cottage area. Hoping for a repeat bloom this fall....See MoreBest Budded Daylilies of 2015
Comments (33)I have Cherry Cheeks, mine has never produced that many buds! That is just awesome. I really like Tiffany Shade. Too Cute- lots of buds and nice branching Tiny Firecracker (though it doesn't exactly have a high bud count here, it bloomed at the beginning of the season, and has a new scape coming up) Final Touch - I've never counted, but oh so many buds...See MoreAdios to the 2015 season
Comments (13)Thanks everyone for your kind words about Yardley. He truly has been one of the greats in my life. I'm so blessed that he has made it this long. Celeste: At 21 pounds Nemo could have taken on Yardley and his little sister with no problems. Nemo was one big kitty........OMGosh Debra. I didn't even realize that Indian Ripple was a poly. What a keen eye you have. RE: Pink Aloha. I talked to a daylily friend of mine and after loosing hers, like me, she just missed it too much and is giving it another try. I'll be overwintering at least one pot of it this time in the garage. Fingers crossed.....Mizelle: A gardening friend of mine lives in the heart of drought ridden California, and Oklahoma just came off a live stock killing 4 year drought. You have my empathy and my sympathy. It's tough......Maryl...See MoreBilli
