Comments (10)Janelle, thanks so much...! We only get to about 30-36 here, I'm in the Antelope/Santa Clarita Valley area not San Gabriel (but that's where these photos were taken) so I'm guessing Zephirine wouldn't do as well for me. with the mystery rose, no, I'm not sure it's a polyantha. Some of the roses around it were, so I guessed. Your link to Bouquet Parfait looks a lot like it! That could be! Regardless BP looks like a gorgeous rose! I'll have to do some research on it and see if it would do well for me! The mystery rose they had at the front of a rose bed, so I was hoping to find a floriforous shorter rose to go in the front of some of my beds....See MoreAnnual Spring plant sale at the Huntington Garden (photo set)
Comments (4)You can contact John Trager via email @ the HBG and he will respond to you. Might take a while but I would say, yes - they usually have a quite a few shick's for sale although when I went to the sale today all of those Echinopsis in Joe's pic were gone. Ordering plants from them is a lengthy process but if you are patient it can happen....See MoreSome Rose photos from Huntington trip
Comments (10)I would wait a little while (mid to late april/early may) for the most spectacular bloom time, it coincides with my area, which is the SGV. Descanso's roses weren't nearly as nice as the Huntington's last time I went, but I might try again this ear. A beautiful rose garden (and free) is in downtown LA near one of the big stadiums (maybe the coliseum/Exposition Park?), but I don't know when it is open to the public. They close it I think when there are games....See MoreHuntington Gardens 2019, roses are starting
Comments (56)Plumeria, those two tree roses are Huntington’s 100th (aka. Life of the Party). I was standing there today marveling at how much Mel’s Heritage grew in just 3 weeks! Then I noticed the 2 beautiful tree roses, in full bloom now, but I didn’t take pictures. They didn’t give Mel’s Heritage nearly enough room. The canes that go across the top are now going down the other side and will soon be touching the ground. I will definitely start a 2020 Huntington thread next January for the spring bloom season....See Moremariannese
