I am in the process of getting rid of our old leaky pool. However, a couple of years ago I purchased a pool solar water heating system. What I would like to know is there any way that I can convert a pool solar heater to a solar hot water heater? It seems to me that there should be some way that I could use this system to heat water for the house.

Sounds kind of high to me too Mike. I am now in the wholesale distribution side of the business, supplying the service and building companies. This sounds like someone that is going to buy the filter at Leslie's, and then charge you a markup and installation. This was from the builder? I do have customers that won't install products you got on the INTERNET. Some will, but they charge more. Most won't be responsible if something goes wrong. I have seen websites selling products we sell, for nearly our cost! I guess if they never touch it,they don't need much profit margin. The manifold and one grid is not a hard repair. I would be careful handling the old the grids. If you take your time, you can probably do it. Be sure to tighten the belly band properly when your done. Good luck.

The Raypak digital is a reliable heater. The number one repair we make on it is the replacement of the thermostat board due to a failed LCD screen on the board. That can be pretty pricy and failures occur fairly early in my opinion. Operationally, it's a good heater. Not sure what you have in that area but in Southern Cal, we have the Rheem (RayPak) Low Nox which is a great heater. Raypak is a heater company only so you get their best effort in production. I would avoid any Hayward heater. They are very repair prone and the failures can be anywhere in the unit. Hayward has never been a heater company and in my opinion, still is not. If you can get a Pentair MasterTemp, this unit is an extremely reliable and efficient heater in a small box. It is the former StaRite Max E Therm (still manufactured) once it was purchased by Pentair. It is a totally different design compared to other heaters. About the only repair we make to that unit is a temp sensor after several years.

I'm partial to the Jandy heaters as I am a dealer and have installed their heaters for about 35 years. The Jxi model is probably the nicest heater they have made to date. It's compact, it's sealed well to keep critters out, it's lightweight and it has a small footprint. Your LLG is giant compared to the Jxi. Since they came out about 5 years, we have had zero issues on installations. There are 3 models: 200, 260 and a 400. They still have about same efficiency as your old model-roughly 83%. Electronic ignition means no standing pilot and a fan assisted exhaust vent. It's fully capable of working with Jandy's RS automated systems.
