Suggestions for a tall narrow tree in zone 10b?

I have a corner in my garden where I'd like to put a tree. It would be between a lemon tree and a loquat tree so it cannot grow wide. However the taller the better as there is an ugly town home towering behind us. The spot only gets about 3 hours of direct sun in the afternoon (from 2pm to 5 pm, measured this March so a little more in the summer a little less in the winter). We are in zone 10b, Sunset 24.

My thought was an Italian Cypress but have red it needs full sun. I then came across info about a "Flagpole Cherry" which I really like and descriptions say full to partial sun. But I'm worried it does not get cold enough here.

Anyone have suggestions about these two tree or other alternatives?

Thanks!
