Stressing over my bathroom remodel
Comments (16)Personally, I love those tones/colours in your inspiration pic. But, then I love slate...(though haven't found a place for it yet in my reno so far, even considered it for kitchen flooring...). Enduring has an excellent point. To plan my Master Bath, I had to go through pages and pages of pics on Houzz, save the ones I like in my ideabook, and then had to figure out what the common denominator was, what was I drawn to? I found that I didn't like a lot of different colours, and found the BR's with different floor tile, different shower tile, different backsplash tile, different counter surface...was often too distracting ,and I felt not very often well put together. So that helped clarify for me what I wanted. You say you like the earthy tones. BUt, I honestly feel that going with a greyer toned floor will probably bring out the richness of your espresso vanity more than a brown tile would. What you could do is print off two copies of your inspiration pic, either using photo shop or some similar program, or cutting out construction paper, compare the pic with a grey floor/grey wall, and then again with brown floor, beige wall. See which one you prefer....See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums! (pic
Comments (56)This old thread got revisited. @dani_m08 to answer the question about extra probe, I believe I ordered an extra one when I bought the set up. The probe wire is just setting in the junction box I think but honestly I cant remember. When I laid out the underfloor heating and the probe, I just ran another probe near the first probe, and it was then sealed into the floor self leveling compound as per instructions. then the end was just threaded into the wall like the one that would be live, and not connected, but just laying there in the box. Regarding the tile layout. I just decided to run it this way, after getting instructions on the 90Degree way, IIRC. The herringbone that I love is from my childhood and the side walks in my neighborhood that all ran at 45Degree. so that to me is herringbone. I know you posted on @sochi thread about her amazing bathroom and a wall mounted faucet. I would totally do it if I had the right sink for it. In my case I had made my sink out of soapstone and an integrated backsplash. The pictures of this bathroom reveal are no longer available because of the use of photo bucket, when it was Gardenweb. I did not keep my account with photo bucket. I'll add some of the reveal pictures so you can see the sink and floor. Regarding the sink there is no ledge for water to drip from my hands when using the faucet. The water drips right into the sink. In my other bathroom with a deck mounted faucet I am always wiping up drips and it is a nuisance. I much prefer the setup for this sink. Below: I love the flush finish from the faucet to the bottom of the sink. nothing drips on a counter or edge of a sink. Below: looking in from the doorway. Below: Here I am finishing up the sink. the backsplash was epoxied on as a separate piece. The whole soapstone install in the room took next to nothing to buy as they were all small pieces that I epoxied together with a 3 part stone epoxy. Below: this is the counter at the tub, and is in 2 long pieces but I was able to epoxy them together at there edges to make a wide slab for the top. All the soapstone was finished with a 60 grit sandpaper to be rough and this lovely soft tone of blue/green/gray/white. I did not oil it so this color tone would remain light. Below: If I recall correctly @sochi helped me decide on this Hubberton Forge Mirror. I have 3 different metals in this room, but they are all a cool silver to black color. Below: the center of this tower shares space with the kitchen on the other side of the wall. there is also some extra space that houses some electrical wiring. this is an old simple house. this bathroom was an add on when it got move to the farm in the 30s IIRC. The plumbing was all rearrange and some of the details that were orignially there I kept but updated it, such as this tower feature. The old one went and the carpenter did a wonderful job with this one. Below: This feature was another thing I kept from the old bathroom but flipped it from the other end and had the carpenter put drawers in it. Before it was a hell hole. things got lost and the build was soooo old and creapy I didn't like using it for storage. Now it is perfect for storage....See MoreHey gang. Comments (26)Hi all! Ugh, I'm SOOOO out of practice. I shrank all the pics because they showed up HUGE in the preview post. Here they are again, larger (probably too large!) Yes, the floor is slate, and yes, it was a pain in the arse to work with, especially since I was bound and determined to use some of the glass mosaic accent pieces in some way. Glass mosaic is super uniform, super thin, and super easy to work with. Using it right next to slate which is NOT super uniform, not super thin, and NOT easy to work with was a challenge, but I LOVE how it turned out. I can't remember the paint color, but I know it was a BM historical color, because that was the only fandeck I could find. :P I replaced the tub as well (which was by FAR the most heinous, horrible, difficult project I've EVER done. EVER. UGH.) But I didn't replace it with anything spectacular, just a newer, not stained and chipped version of what was there before. ::::Side note:::: Removing and re-installing a bathtub is a truly horrible undertaking, and I don't know if I'll ever do that one again. Ugh. As far as my gorgeous distraction, here's another shot of us at a concert: Working bathroom and a gorgeous distraction. Life is good. :)...See MoreI need remodel inspiration/tile colors for bathroom
Comments (4)consider doing a curbless shower. Maybe even a wall-mount toilet. (don't know what the budget is, but both of these will cost more). check w/the city or state and see if they have an allowance to give you to turn your bath into ADA for your husband. In some situations they will pay for a portion to convert. I would lose that tower and do a larger vanity w/more storage. I'd also do a wall mount faucet which will make cleaning easier for you! It's not that difficult for the plumber to put the lines in the wall. he will have to come out to redo the shower anyway. another option is a floating vanity. you could put baskets underneath for extra storage if you need it. as for the shower, think of doing a little pony wall, like in the pic, with a glass panel atop, and leaving the entire doorway open. that way he can roll right in. (you can have a built in bench in the shower or one that pulls down. grab bars can also be installed curdles, linear drain at the entrance, single panel glass, and teak bench. or you may choose to do no pony wall and just have a door that swings open. These have to be done by someone qualified to understand floor slope! so make sure you choose a pro. I just redid a shower for my neighbors. they took out their tub and did this no door, just a single 36" glass panel. (not shown here) I also gave them wall mount faucet. quartz countertop and this is a 36" vanity. extra storage in the niche (shelving not done yet) and over the toilet....See MoreRelated Professionals
