Can I just complain?
Comments (42)Rococo, yes your handle. Just curious. JJ I haven't mentioned anyone by name and what will be will be. Lavender lass, love that handle too. He is a super dad and extremely good to my DD. I think he is a perfect match for her, and that is what counts. He texted me to tell me he is spending a week with us with his daughter next week. He asked permission a month ago. I think since he will be here a week, he will jump right in and them two of us will get a lot done. SIL is not really a problem....it was just an annoyance on top of frustration from cabinets still not being finished since we started in January. We are totally stopped in the remodel. I turned my attention from the wedding and remodel. Now I am concentrating mostly on me. Things are getting done. My old classroom is getting emptied and I am going through teacher junk. Everything is getting organized. All is well with the world. Peke...See MoreOpinions on possible countertop slab
Comments (9)Oh...almost forgot. The Pietra falls in the middle range of the pricing (the stone yard prices in categories from A-E...A being the least spendy). Pietra fell in at a C. I also got nervous, Smarge, after reading some posts. I have thrown everything I can think of at my sample Pietra. It always wipes clean and looks as beautiful as before. I've spoken with a couple of stone shops here, and they both recommend it for counters. I did see This Old House used it in a dream kitchen project. I figure if it got Tom and Norm's approval, it must be okay ;) In the end, I was swayed by the appearance....See Moresoapstone with slab/flat-panel cabinets
Comments (17)Beadboard is not "coastal" - it is vintage 1800s-early 1900s, significantly earlier than your era. It would look seriously out of place in a ranch. I would choose the slab over so-called shaker which is again more of an early 1900s thing. This is not to say you have to live in a museum or do everything EXACTLY how it would have been done originally in your house - nooooo! Just that the more you keep your upgrades and modern touches in sync with the original ranch design the more the house will flow and feel right. Soapstone for instance- it really wasnt used all that much in kitchens back in the olden days, it really is a more of a 2000's thing (as mining and transporting of stone became more economical) but the simplicity and naturalness of it would fit beautifully with wood slab doors. Yeah they mostly used formica but it often had stone patterns, so a soapstone in a square edge is going to convey the same kind of design sense. EDTA - oooh celedon green cabs, nice!...See MoreSlab front kitchen cabinet brand comparison
Comments (2)The cost quotes directly correlates to quality. I would not even consider most everything on your list. Diamond is the lowest acceptable quality of what you are listing. You should look at Kitchencraft and Omega Full Access both. Both are frameless which will give you 20% more storage in the same space. Both will be slightly better than the lower level Diamond line that you were quoted. And there’s a better quality Diamond line than you were quoted too. The industry warranty on mid grade cabinet lines is a lifetime. If they are treated properly, there is no reason that you won’t get decades of wear out of them....See MoreTaylor's Cabinets & Interiors
