Pls help-timely! Can heat from range back damage marble b-splash?
Comments (11)Hi madeline...no problem at all. I can tell that you are very excited about your kitchen and I think that is great! I would most certainly push the range right up to the wall, your marble will be fine. I made sure that my cabinetry lined up right to the millimeter with the front of the stoves BOX, not the oven door. The oven door and control panel above it should sit proud. Also make sure that gas lines etc are places as to not interfere with getting the range all the way against the wall. To tell you the truth I think it would look a bit strange to have the range sit out from the wall with the 4 inch strip of marble behind it. Are you still going with marble tops? I love to hear people gutsy enough to do marble in their kitchens. So many people are scared to do it because of maintenance etc, but it is just so gorgeous. What about cabs? Painted or stained? Framed or framless? Is the look you are going for traditional? Or more contemporary?...See MoreHelp with Back Splash and Lights (Selection Fatigue)
Comments (7)Overall I'm not thrilled with the whole of the lighting plan in this space. I see a wire hanging down from your under cabs, which are also lighting up more of the backsplash than the counters and have created a hot spot rather than a flood of even light. The recessed cans are not placed to light up work areas, and there should have been one over the island in the center I feel like every light is slightly askew from, wondering if some plans changed post light install? I say all this knowing much ado about nothing, but I am wondering about the pendant placement itself. If you want to kind of get a feel for things, you could hang some string and a balloon or plastic cup from the ceiling. just to get a rough idea....See MoreHelp ID this Granite name and new back splash ideas??
Comments (9)@designinteriorsouth We are planning on moving in the next few years i was looking to update the kitchen We looked at changing the granite and painting cabinets but with the way it is installed with cabinets directly on top of full slabs in areas not shown in the above pics entire cabinets would need to be rebuilt taking just granite removal and replacement cost upwards of $7-10k plus painting @$7kplus, plus hardware plus sink change etc etc Just not worth it PLUS the cabinets are good and most pp say keep them as is - just clean and retouch stain. As to trim - the trim upstairs is painted but downstairs it isnt. The The problem is the house was built in 1937 and all trim was originally painted. At some point the paint was removed and is now wood is yellowish greenish orangeish and the window sashes are pine and sills and surrounding trim birch, while cabinets, floor and crown moulding are oak, door mouldings are birch. The window trim is in rough shape . Here are additional pics: Window sill, sash and trim oppodite side from sink cabinet on granite end of kitchen...See MoreHelp I need a 2in thick carrara marble back splash for bathroom
Comments (3)Yep, they can make it look fatter than the slab actually is by laminating material to the edges. It's done on countertops frequently....See MoreRelated Professionals
