How to get Japanese Honeysuckle out of a tree?

Katie

I have a woody twining vine covering half of a medium-sized hackberry tree on the corner of our property. I think it's a Japanese Honeysuckle, and I'm concerned that it's going to kill the tree.

If I cut it off at the roots, will I need to physically remove the rest of it from the tree, or will it fall out after it dies?
