help my phlox leaves are dying
Comments (2)Too much water and or too little sun. Mine do than if I water the lawn frequently (when I reseed) and water gets on the leaves. Or if it rains a lot. Phlox grow like a weed where I live :) so they quickly recover....See MoreNeed help with my phlox
Comments (10)Thanks for the replies. As for the soaker hose, I only water plants that aren't established. I've got many new winter-sown plants in the main beds so I've had to water there during the summer, but they are on the other side of the stone wall from the phlox so the phlox got no extra water. We've been exceedingly dry (and hot), and a few of the early summer rain showers that our neighboring towns enjoyed showed a nice, big, dry hole over our area, so we've had even less rain than most up here. The soaker hose was used only once, about 3 weeks ago (maybe, I guess) when it was completely dry and hot and the phlox looked like they really needed a drink. They're definitely not comfy, but I don't think they're water stressed either. I can guarantee you I'm not waiting 12 years, though! Isn't is strange? I did a web search and found nothing. Diggerdee, you and I have the only non-blooming phlox in the nation, I think. I'm pretty sure I'll divide them this fall. Half I'll leave where they are, just to see what happens, and the other half I'll put in another place in the garden. Those Alma Potschkes like it there, so I think I'll divide her and fill in the area with them eventually. Any more thoughts on these phlox, please reply. I'll be checking often! mad gallica, I searched to see if mildew can affect next year's blooms and found nothing. Have you heard of that happening?...See MoreLooking for Perennial Creeping Phlox or Something for a ditch
Comments (1)I went to low growing sunflowers! After 30 years, nothing worked... then I put out birdfeeders in a tree close to the frontage. The next year the drainage ditch (called a "bar ditch" out here) was filled with beautiful sunflowers about 2 1/2 feet high. They bloomed repeatedly all the way into fall = in a drought year! without any tending. So I bought cheap sunflower seeds for birds and scattered them across the road and all up and down the drainage ditch. I never could get "wildflowers" to grow there - but these are absolutely stunning!...See MoreLooking for Garden Phlox for Named Daylilies
