Will my yellow and orange watermelons cross-pollinate?
Comments (8)suzi I can't buy a pack of seeds for the yellow watermelon -- he doesn't know the variety. And I have enough OrangeGlo to last for years so won't have to purchase them. I do know how to prevent cross-pollination and save the seeds -- it's pretty common among GW gardeners who grow more than one variety of cross-pollinating veggies! rdback Yes, that yellow watermelon was the only variety he grew last year, and in fact for many years before then, so I imagine they're "pure". I may see if I can manage to rearrange my garden layout for the yet unplanted vegetables. Maybe I can separate them by 40 feet or so, though I'm sure they'll wander into my beans if I do! That should help some....See MoreHave: Hybrid Yellow JB Watermelon Seeds
Comments (0)Commercial "New Dimension Seed" tested 2008.01 (only just opened the packet - Three trades of 11, 2 trades of 10) - "Early maturing, disease resistant. High fruit setting rate (7-8 lbs each). Red meat, yellow skin. Sow 1" deep. Harvest 28-30 days after flowering (90 days after planting). Crack tips of seeds before sowing to speed up germination. May be kept up to 30 days after harvesting." I would prefer to trade for heirloom veggies, etc., but I'm open to other possibilities. :)...See MoreWatermelon pollination

Comments (5)pretty sure Sandhill is organic or very close. Great people. Baker Creek is good but buys most of his seeds from other people. Probably almost all his seeds are grown by others. Sandhill grows most himself. But you should ask. I like Baker Creek also. Very nice company. Fedco has the best seeds at the best prices. Mostly organic. Has full organic certification on some seeds. Very high quality company. Very low prices. more of a coop then a money machine. So they sell low price to the farmers and people. This is my favorite seed company. A practical company that handles varieties with high yield and easy growing for the farmer who needs to make money from growing the seeds. Not necessarily will have a big selection of odd ball hot peppers that have low yield. What they have will be proven performance of high yield up north....See MoreKatie Gooding
