Honda GCV 160 E Engine Question
Comments (28)I have a gcv160 honda pressure washer that I bought at an auction. I know nothing of it's history and when I got it home and started messing with it I found out it has no compression. I checked this by taking spark plug out and putting my thumb in plug hole and pulling rope. No compression. I'm good with older engines but no nothing of the Honda. How do I check to see if valves are stuck?...See Moretroy-bilt xp, honda engine, rwd w/ larger rear tires
Comments (6)Welp, other than general reviews of the company itself (I know, I know - its MTD), I couldn't find any inbiased revies for this exact model, with either the honda or kohler engine. Thanks for the tip about the autochoke on the honda engine, i'll have to make a mental note if/when it happens to me - I did buy the mower late this evening, and made a few test passes with it. My front yard is the levelest of what I have, with a good 20' section that is perfectly flat. The fastest gear selection is a little TOO fast for me to actually mow with, but for moving it from front to back, etc, its great. out of 4 gears, #3 is just a hair faster than what I normally use on my rider - which on a brand new mower with a brand new blade, worked perfectly. #1 and #2 were fine also, just slower as expected - but nothing I would consider a 'grandmothers pace' - tho I wish it did have at least one that slow.. Even with the big 12" tires on the back of this RWD mower, I couldn't hold it still with it trying to pull. Tires wouldnt break loose and spin on level ground, it actually pulled me over the 3rd pass when I was playing with it. It also pulled itself, and me, up a 25 degree slope, about 40 feet long. Let's hope she holds out for a long time to come - for someone used to using the $99 Murray special, it's like comparing a Pinto to a Corvette. I understand lots of folks like some of the other names like JD, Snapper, etc - and I imagine that would be like stepping from a Pinto to a 200mph Maybach - I'm fine in the middle class with the 'vette....See Morehonda needs new engine
Comments (2)Hello Bacca, I am not an expert on the Honda's. The GXv140 is not listed on the Honda website - so I don't know the answer. Most of the bolt patterns on mower decks are the same. There may not be a problem with your engine. Many of the mower engines are equipped with a compression release device that lowers compression during starting. Normal compression is restored once the engine starts. Compression is further reduced as the altitude increases. If the engine runs ok, why not keep it going. My mowers are not Honda - but to compare, I checked the compression on a new mower - found 60psi. I checked the compression on a 35 year old mower and found 50psi. I live at 7300feet. Both mower run great. If you just want the larger engine, measure the crankshaft length. Remove the old engine and take the deck to a dealer that has the 190 engine on the shelf. GX engines are heavy duty. Engines such as the GC190 are usually intended for home owner service....See MoreNeed help with my Honda lawn mower
Comments (1)You have something binding. When you remove the long studs you need to use longer studs to put back on. I am sure you have something binding. You should be able to freely move the gas throttle by moving the lever from the governor. Look at the parts sheet on any good Honda parts site to see what you may need to adjust....See More1saxman
