Is the surface smooth ?...30 years ago they used the cheapest wood available without concern for flaws as sub flooring...usually that is pine...but the holes would have been dented or open..the knots would be black from outdoor storage as this is probably construction grade material at that time...lived in aspen for years and saw a lot of this in the little refurbished victorians..

Could be a cherry. that's possible. The graining is rather pronounced though. And they could have done a slightly reddish stain on american walnut. I did my own Walnut wood top and it looks like this the corbels look like quarter sawn cut. It could also be a mahogany. So, HU, it's one of those 3 wood types!

Birch for Northern Michigan too. Could be red, Acacia, no way. I hadn't hear of it being used for flooring until the early part of the 20th century. I don't even think it grows in the USA.

I think the cabinets look great. The lack of contrast between the floor and cabinets would bother me a little, but if you lightened the floor as you mention it would address that issue. I don't know if these pics are yours or are from the listing when you bought (sounded like a new purchase), but the valances really don't work with the kitchen wallpaper. I think I could be won over to one or the other of the valances or the wallpaper, just not both together.
