Repurposing the garage...was catch-all and storage...need a nice shop.

I will be changing around my priorities a little. I currently have 3 locations on my property where I work, the artistic carving shed far out back, the basement beneath the living space of the main house, and the garage. The artistic carving shed is a warm, friendly, Adirondack style mecave where I mostly chill and do creative things like carve wood- not a great place to weld or take on industrial projects. The basement is a lot of things, one of which is my wood shop, where I build stuff and repair general things. It conflicts with the connected living area upstairs due to dust, noise and fire hazard. It's not a good place for lots of dust, sparks and large metal projects. The basement is also a gym, a pantry, a laundry area (complete with clotheslines which have hanging cloths), and a "not used much" storage area that must stay clean, dry and not on fire. The garage is where I fix the vehicles and equipment, build prototypes of new equipment, weld, cut, and grind. It must also hold things that cannot fit in the basement, things which can take the cold and the environment of the outdoors, like garden equipment, recreational stuff and the like- not nearly a cool place to chill or be artistic. It must also hold things that cannot fit in the basement. Consequently, I have pretty much 3 sets of tools and 3 places to work. I'm confessing; this must stop. I plan on making one place, probably the current garage, into a little of all these places. It must be warm in the winter, friendly, clean and have enough atmosphere to be conducive to artistic thinking, yet be able to take a little fire and handle some projects (from large to small) where noise, dust, and a spray of hot sparks from the cut-off saw are not a problem. If I spill a little oil, it must seem more like an anointing than a mess. Tough project. Quite a spectrum of use. We can do this.
