GE 120V Wall Advantium Oven? Sharp Microwave drawer? Opinions?
Comments (3)We also have a 120V advantium (ours is OTR) and really like it. The newer ones seem even better than ours, but ours works just fine. We use it more for microwaving and regular baking (rather than speedcooking) but we do use the speedcooking capability from time to time. From what I understand, the new ones have a rack that can go in which I really like the idea of - my one caveat to ours is that it has only the turntable, on which you need to fit your baking dishes - not always the easiest size to fit. We did have problems with the bulb about a year into owning it, but we didn't bother replacing it at that time. It had a big circuit board problem though about 2 months ago which was pretty expensive to fix - that said, from what I understand our experience was atypical (and may have been a power surge issue). In addition, there is an online site (I think it was instuctables.com) that explains how to replace the bulb yourself. Bottom line? We're doing an addition to our new house and completely redoing the kitchen, and I'm pretty positive there will be a 120V Advantium (possibly the Monogram this time) in that kitchen (along with a 36" gas range and a Gagg combi-steam). We find its flexibility extremely useful....See MoreSpeed Ovens--would you buy GE Advantium or Electrolux Icon?
Comments (4)There is a new Advantium 240 --it is larger and has convection. They call it 4 ovens in one -- speed, MW or conventional convection bake or broil. It will hold a 9 x 13 pan and rotate it on a 16 inch carousel. I am thinking this could even be our primary oven as it is just for the two of us and we do messy big things on the green egg anyway. Any thoughts about that?...See Morespeed oven vs. advantium vs trivection vs convection MW
Comments (62)I did that exactly, ellessebee. I have the 240V OTR Advantium mounted above the counter. I also have 15" wall cabinets so it fits and works like a charm. I don't think there are any differences in the cooking features between the wall oven and OTR models. The oven cavity is pretty big, because I can fit a half sheet. There are two considerations you need to keep in mind. 1. The OTR does need to vent, because it performs a cooling function after using the non-MW functions. I have mine blow out the front, above the door. In hindsight, I would have run some duct up and over to the adjacent rangehood. 2. The door needs and extra inch of clearance on the hinge side (left) to open. When the contractor first installed it, the whole unit was flush with the cabinet and looked awesome. He was so proud of himself, as was I. I went to use it later and couldn't open the door. It also blocked the exhaust in the front. He had to come back and reinstall it by tacking 2x4s (actually measured 1.5x3.5) to the back wall and then installing it. Now it all works beautifully, while taking a slight hit in the aesthetics. Another benefit to mounting the OTR model OTC is that the underside is heat and moisture resistant. So my coffee maker has a permanent home under there where I don't have to worry about the steam damaging the undersides of the cabinet. Oh, and the built in light of the OTR serves as task lighting for the area underneath. So I also saved money on lighting there. Comments (4)Last year we built a new home and went with the Monogram. I wanted the handles, gas stove and the 240 Advantium. We are now currently building our 2nd new home, but I am preferring the Profile's handles this time.. and just don't feel the price difference is worth it, since I have been told that they really are identical, except for exterior features and price....See Moreerikgerard
