3/8 vs 1/2 inch thick engineered hardwood for staple down installation

We are trying to decide between two similar engineered 7" wide hickory hardwoods, to be stapled or nailed down over a crawlspace, throughout the house. One is 3/8" thick with 5 layers of plywood. The other is 1/2" thick with 7 layers of plywood. My instinct tells me the more layers might mean a more stable floor, but is it worth an extra $2500? The wear layers seem comparable.
