If I don't grow gardenia, I would be happy
Comments (7)Yellowthumb, I beg to differ..lol Actually, my denias are doing MUCH better in the gritty. If you use the mix properly, and practice good cultural needs for that plant, you should be able to even grow this plant where you are, even if you manipulate the roots! I can assure you it is not the fact that gardenias and the gritty mix don't work. Nor the fact that you due a hard pruning of the roots... I know a Bonsai expert out here that, well let's just say he is not to kind to his gardenia roots..His look awsome anyways.. I also did DRASTIC root work to mine before potting them in the gritty mix, AND gave them a nice period of warm weather when I transplanted. I would probably due a research everything that has to do with denia care, if you are still determined to spend so much money on them. If you are anything like me, you will not stop until you overcome this challange. It is a feel good thing, like growing a perfect lawn.... I currently have over 8, and all but two I over wintered indoors. My big plants in the mix were healthier and bug free all winter and still are. You have seen my pics and I have even told you they are in the gritty mix. Just call me, and I will help you... What else can I say...? Al's gritty mix has never failed me, unless I was not using it correctly, or not properly caring for the plant type....:-) Can I ask a personal question? Do let your plants rest in shade for a couple of weeks after a transplant as such?...See MoreDon't know where to post this so I'll start here
Comments (14)The shepperd hook I have has a straight botton, i.e. needle sharp like, so it's actually very easy to insert the pots from the bottom up. You say yours has double prongs on the end side? How about drilling a hole large enough for the prongs to be able to fit? One word of caution regarding the metal pots idea: depending on where you live and how hot your climate is, you may wish not to do this. In my climate, metal pots left outside in the afternoon sun are a sure way to fry the plant's roots. Even plastic pots have similar problems in Summer. Clay works very well, even though we have to be more dilligent concerning watering. Eduarda...See MoreI don't think I'm happy with my backsplash :/
Comments (72)Have to agree with the above - it looks on my monitor that all of the backsplash tiles read green/blue and the countertop reads grey/brown and none of them seem to work together. The fireclay tiles posted by eam44 would look to be a much better match. I disagree above that you need some kind of focal point. I think it's a smallish kitchen and has lovely pendants, and windows and island and a bold backsplash is just competing with that. Keep it simple! In fact, i was the above writer who earlier said they pretty much always dislike the inset backsplash and i think your current BS is a perfect example of how those insets rarely look good. Even when the underlying colors are similar, as yours are, there's just something "off" about them. I think the only exception is when they are using almost the same tile (like, carerra subway tile BS with a carerra herringbone pattern inset). I still think this is busier than i like, but isn't an eyesore as so many other insets are. I think this inset mistake is actually a good opportunity to replace the whole thing!...See More1st home-Don't know where to start
Comments (11)Get yourself a 5 x 7 spiral notebook, a tape measure, and a pencil. Label two pages for each room and then sketch each room with measurements, including closets, windows, doors. I jot down my ideas for lamps, paint colors, drapes, etc and try to set a per room budget. I put the measurements of each piece of furniture I already own in this notebook because I might decide later the “ black 4 drawer cabinet 17 x 26” can fit in that other room and all I need is a new lamp. I carry that notebook when I stop at Calico Corners or Target or that cute little shop over on Market St. I know if something on sale—adorable curtains, ooooh that chair, etc—will fit my room and my budget. I haunt consignment and antique shops and garage sales....See Morespedigrees z4VT
