Comments (15)Thanks for all your nice comments, everyone. Immediately after I put up the mosaic, I decided I hated the outlet plates. I've been thinking of stainless steel, but couldn't find a phone plate to match. Cher, thanks for the tip on Fusion spray paint. I've used it for other things, but never would have thought of it here, for whatever reason. What I was hoping to do was find a clear face plate and do a "mosaic" matching the colors of the backsplash with some kind of paper decoupaged on the inside of the face plate, so it'd be smooth on the outside. So far, no luck finding this type of face plate. Haven't looked beyond Lowes, though, b/c I just needed a breather from the mosaic for a minute, you know?...See MoreTiling next to old yellow tile?
Comments (4)What if you chose something different than subway tile in white...some type of white mosaic perhaps...I am not sure white subway would look the best running against the yellow square tile. Would you consider white squares instead? I would definitely tile the whole vanity area...probably to the ceiling. Maybe something like this that is not all white; Pearl She'll mosaic Squares: http://mosaictiledirect.net/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/p/r/preal-shell.jpg Seashell mosaic circles: http://t.homedepot.com/p/Merola-Tile-Conchella-Penny-White-11-1-4-in-x-11-1-2-in-x-3-mm-Natural-Seashell-Mosaic-Wall-Tile/203684354/?showPLP=false Are you keeping the medicine chest?...See Morebacksplash issue - stumped
Comments (24)On the black wash idea: it would give it depth, but it's a small kitchen and have a strong feeling it would "take over" ( I have a lot of black accents in the house..love spray paint) Getting the hub. to help paint again is not looking too bright a path. Hmmm, the green? That's a strong possibility. Everyone has been so wonderful and helpful. Comments (76)How did you find an actual fireback to insert? I did a image search for firebacks and picked one that was shot straight on and square (easier to copy and paste squares or rectangles than ovals and other shapes). I played with the image in Paint to get it to the right size for your image. I learned this all by trial and error when I worked on my kitchen design. ...that's more gray, so I guess if I chose a gray one, then Carrara marble would probably look better that calacutta? I personally prefer the marble tile over the white subways and prefer calacatta over carrara for your kitchen. You've got a lot of white and black going on already; the gold veins bring in the warmth from your lovely wood floors (and possibly your walls, can't quite tell what color they are). I don't think you have to have everything match exactly. As long as the tones compliment each other - no cool grays with warm grays - I think you can blend a grayish fireback with near black counters and calacatta marble tile. Personally, I think that also makes for a more interesting mix....See MoreRelated Professionals
