Protecting chickens from hawks

Curious how you're protecting chickens/ducks from hawks, particularly ways that are relatively decorative. I've got to put some kind of screen ceiling up; major losses this year. I'd be interested in photos of attractive ways to do this, so that it doesn't look too industrial. Here's a photo showing the view of the barn from our house; the chickens and ducks go out into that fenced area to the left of the barn.

It's a large run, about 50' square, though I don't think I will cover it all. The hawk kills are always right near the barn where the chickens come and go, and I'm wondering if a roof just a few feet out will help. Has anyone used bird netting, like what is used for fruit trees? I wonder if it is durable enough, though.
