Switching light over the sink separately
Comments (24)Cooksnsews--Glad to hear someone else who has what I'm considering. Clueless--I've never heard of a switch in a kick plate! Corrie22--Technically, the light switch could fit to the left of the window, but....... It can't go immediately next to the window because the plumber ran his vent pip right there. I could move it farther left, but I run into the KA mixer and espresso machine that will live on the counter. It is a possibility though. Florantha--I'm running into that very problem and I'm not liking it. I'm going to have 6, yes you read that right...6, switches already on the side of the fireplace stack facing the kitchen. That's waaaaay too many in my book, but I don't have a lot of wall space. This is another reason I'm considering the sink light linked with the perimeter cans. Maruha--I was thinking that I could use the UC lights near the sink as the sort of kitchen nightlight instead of the sink light like I do now. Andrea--The GD switch will be an air switch. One of the sink light switch options is an air switch also, but DH vetoed that. OCJeff--Bingo. See above. Rhome--It can go left of sink, but see my comments to Corrie above. I always, always, always turn every light on in the kitchen when I'm in there working. Darker spaces anywhere, even peripherally, bother me when I'm working in a room. One of my many idiosyncracies that make me loveable! I'm planning on going to the house again today to look at your suggestions and my options again IRL to see if I can work in a switch. I don't like BS swiss cheese anymore than I like ceiling swiss cheese. ;)...See MoreShow me the light above your main sink, please
Comments (47)Ugh.. So DH just talked to electrician (E) and E thought that the plan the entire time was to move the can and put a smaller can on a separate switch above the sink. Not sure why I do not remember making this decision-- but I must have. So my thought was to just change the smaller can to a pendant/fixture of some sort. DH does not want to since E already purchased the smaller can. Also to put in a fixture it would involve putting in a box/adding 2x4s or something like that. Now DH does not want to change it to a fixture since E already purchased the smaller can. DH says we can change it down the road if we want to. Arghhh.. :( Thanks for all of your help!!...See MoreWhere are your kitchen light switches?
Comments (7)In our previous house we had a large U/island kitchen with an entry on one side from the dining room and the other side from the family room. The builder put in a three way switch for the can lights but a regular two way switch for the under cabinet lights. I always wished both had been on three way switches because I kept finding myself at the wrong switch. I like three way switches in a large space. Our current house is smaller and there is a single bank of switches which works fine since its on the main route between the garage, kitchen, and family room....See MoreLight switch for sink task light
Comments (3)None of that would be convenient to use, so you won’t end up using them at all. Light switches need to be easily accessible, and from 40”-54” above the floor. That is what will get used. I have placed them underneath upper cabinetry and then skinned the bottom flush, but they do not belong below elbow height. Nor do they belong above eye height. Your electrician should be able to work something out here. What does he say?...See Moreshaggydogs
