Why did my pan crack?
Comments (22)I did say it was cheap, right? :) It was a store brand, "Tools of the Trade Basic" or something like that, from Macy's. Imported, of course. I did hit it with a lot of heat so if it was gonna go, that would be the time. Induction transfers the energy faster than gas or traditional electric so that wouldn't help Anyway, now I know that it won't send bits of shrapnel hither and yon when a pan goes and it won't damage the glass cooktop and uh. Well, it'll still make me jump....See MoreHelp: factory painted cabinets, cold climate humidity & cracking?
Comments (6)Wood absorbs and releases moisture. The ONLY thing that you can do to keep it from doing that is to keep humidity levels consistent, around 30-40%. If you can't do that, then your wood WILL expand when it absorbs moistue, and shrink when it gets drier. Like the seasonal changes between a more humid summer environment and a drier winter one. That is NORMAL behavior for wood. When wood has a film forming coating applied, that seasonal movement will cause separation of that coating wherever pieces are joined. ''Cracking'' if you will. The movement between the cross grains, like on a mitered joint, is more than movement of cross and long grain, like a stick and cope door. Paint will show this much more than a clear coated wood, because there are those solids in the coating. If you cannot deal with the minimal NORMAL joint lines in painted cabinetry, then don't get wood doors. Despite the extreme wood prejudice that the uninformed have, there is nothing wrong with choosing MDF or HDF for painted case goods. It has much better cross dimensional stability ecause of the different orientations of the cross linked wood fibers. I wouldn't choose a single piece routed door, but a true 5 pc door is more than acceptable. You won't get those join lines telegraphing through the paint. Those are your three choices: install a high quality humidity control system in your home, or get over seeing the normal join lines, or choose MDF....See MoreWhy is my sans leaves cracked?

Comments (31)Why are my cabinets cracking? “only the shadow knows" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFRGbdHCFA0 Fun. You are not in a tough spot; your builder is in a tough spot. Whether the cabinets were made properly or painted properly is not your responsibility.. It is the builder’s problem; he recommended the company; and it is up to him to rectify this situation with the cabinet maker. Humidity? What a joke. The cabinets are built locally. The painters are local. If you live in an area with a lot of humidity, those pros have to make cabinets work in the environment. If builder is the trustworthy man you say he is, he should step up to the plate. The buck stops with him. Grrrr….no one wants to take responsibility for anything any more. Otherwise, you can take advantage of what every one has available: Small Claims Court. It costs you nothing but the filing fee. There is a dollar limit on your claim. MN, the limit is $15,000.00 . Go to court prepared. Bring your contract, all your info on the kitchen cabinets, including what your builder charged you for them, and the photos you show here. Contractor a no show in court? Possibly triple damages… Then, there is YELP! It works miracles....See More- 9 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
