Comments (14)I appreciate all the input thus far. Thank you for the complements on my wall of windows. That is my favorite part, especially because we have a view of the water. It has always been my dream! The 90 degree lowers don't seem like they lose much space compared to the angled. Red_lover, I particularly like how your doors open on these cabinets. Do you like it or find it awkward? Do you have hardware on one door or both? I don't think I would be hurting for storage if I didn't have the angled upper. Speaking of storage, that is another thing I'm debating on changing. I have all drawers in the lower cabinets and was going to have one regular cabinet with adjustable shelves or rollouts. I was debating on making it another bank of drawers. I know everyone here seems to be a drawer fan. I already have around 20 drawers and 2 lazy susans. Any thoughts on this? I agree with you Annkh, I am worried it would look funny ending with angled cabinets and nothing attached to them. Your dog is cute by the way. :) Chitownkat, it's funny you mention open shelving. I love open shelving and that is actually one of my changes not shown in the picture. I added some open shelving on the right side of the kitchen between the cabinets to mirror the opening in the cabinets on the left side where the range hood is. Icskaisgir, do your cabinet doors scrape against eachother when you open them? I'm just curious because your doors open differently than red's, and similar but it looks slightly different than teachertile. I love your countertops btw. I love all the gorgeous kitchens! So I'm definitely leaning towards 90 degree lower and an upper that ends against the wall. Do you guys think ending against a wall or an easy reach would be better for the upper? I'm a visual person so I'm having a hard time deciding....See Morekitchen corner cabinet: lazy susan or magic corner pull-out?
Comments (18)"...corner susans...don't quite look like the rest of the kitchen..." Huh???? They looked just fine in our old kitchen w/partial overlay doors. Our lazy susan was the only thing in our kitchen that looked and performed as well at demo as it did at installation 13 years earlier. I wholeheartedly recommend corner susans. As to stuff falling off, if your cabinets are made so the back and side walls closely follow the contour of the round shelves, there are no problems. However, I don't know if all cabinetmakers, especially small custom shops, are able to (or willing to) make them that way. We had that kind (curved walls) in our old kitchen w/builder-grade cabinets...and that susan was great! It held all our pots & pans, colanders, cake & pie tins, and various serving pieces. Everything was in front...you simply rotated the susan, the doors rotated inside, and you stopped where the item you wanted was...and it was right in front of you...no digging around for things. Nothing ever fell off. The hardware worked smoothly the entire 13 years. No taking up aisle space in front of the cabinet when open. No door-banging b/c the door was attached to the susan (like Marcolo's picture). Be aware that if you store smaller items on a blind corner pullout and something falls off, you will have to crawl inside to retrieve the item b/f you will be able to close it. My KD strongly discourages blind corner cabinets b/c of all the complaints she's gotten from customers who insisted on them and then later regreted them. (I thought they looked "cool" the first time I saw them and asked about them. After she showed me how they work, told me about the pitfalls, and told me about all the complaints she's gotten, we decided not to get one.) Other good uses of corners: Drawers (Plllog's kitchen) Corner sink bases (b/c under sink storage is usually poor so you combine them to give you better storage everywhere else.) Installing a 27" or 30" cabinet and turning it 90 degrees to face the back side of the corner...but this only works if the back side is open, like in a peninsula. Yes, some people love their blind corner units, but, to me, they're a "last resort" option...only if absolutely nothing else works. YMMV...See MoreDo you have Hafele blind corner pull outs?
Comments (9)List for Magic Corner 2 mechanism is 1530 to 1530, stores 1080 sq ins- don't put a drawer above it, not the best thing for feild install. A better choice is the Hafele Lemans units- list $870- stores either 884" or 1057 (the one that takes the same wall space as the MC 2- do NOT get the smallest one unless you have no choice) Easier to use with aging back, more flexible storage, can still have a drawer, can be feild installed easily. You have to watch the direction that they swing out if near a range. There is a limiter that can keep it from hitting a range if it must be placed there. An alternative are the Rev-A-Shelf half moon pullouts- Plastic ones list at $272, Wood 441. Again don't get the smallest, storage is less than Lemans but they pull out in a different direction. Lemans is my first choice for blinds BUT final determination is made based on door opening and direction of swing/clearanc, and storage requirements. I disagree that a super susan is the most efficient- depends on the layout. When doing a susan, if I'm doing either frameless or inset I always use a Suzi Q- which has a slightly higher sq in than typical pie cut super susan but is easier to use.(Suzi Q is NOT field install ever)...See MoreVanessafox
