Comments (2)Californian: I doubt that copper sulfate will have much effect on fireblight, especially when applied in the dormant season. Streptomycin should be sprayed on early in spring, using fresh strep powder, about when the blossoms begin to open and again maybe a week to ten days later. Applying streptomycin in winter when the bacteria are inactive would be a waste of material and your time. The tree you have been trying to save is most likely a goner, and I would take it out. With the others, prevention is the answer, since there is no real cure once fireblight gets going in the growing season. Comments (6)Hi greenman28, the traditional method of treating Citrus Scale is to use a dormant oil or Neem oil. The oils suffocate the scale and they die. Some times it takes more than one application though. Mike started a thread not long ago about avoiding pests and keeping your plants green. He said he used Fish Emulsion at 1 Tablespoon per gallon. I did a search on the internet and found that it has been used and sometimes works. Many of us live in parts of the country where it gets really hot in the summer. Dormant oil and Neem oil are less effective in high temps as it causes it to both evaporate more quickly and break down faster. The oils are a better choice if your temps are not over 85 deg and you spray in the early morning when temps are 70deg or less. However the Fish Emulsion has the added benefit of foliar feeding your trees and making them nice and green. Seaweed Extract aka Kelp Extract is also a good foliar fed fertilizer that has some affect on Scale and other insects and is often mixed with Fish Emulsion....See MoreShould I cut off this branch from my citrus?
Comments (9)Thank you so much for your inputs. I did not cut off the entire branch, but I got rid of a few smaller ones arising from it. For the others that are curling back in towards the body, I am going to roll soft steel wire around the joints and point them outwards (kind of what you do with bonsais). Would you guys be willing to take a look at my other thread? It has more pictures: http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/3066108/worried-about-my-citrus...See Moreevdesert 9B Indio, CA
