We moved to a new home recently and I have two large beds across the front of our house that faces NE. They only get about 4-5 hours of morning sun then the sun gets high enough that the house casts shade on the beds.

I've always thought Hostas were beautiful but before now had beds with 8 hours of SW sun.

Is 4 hours of sun the right condition to grow Hostas? Also, I have acidic clay soil. How would I need to amend the soil for optimum growth?

Are there Hostas that are easier to grow than others for this beginning shade gardner?
