Calm, light granite for natural cherry cabinets. Ideas please?

I'm bleary eyed looking for pics of natural cherry cabinets with lighter granite. I need something without too much motion. River White works but seems so "safe". Crema Bordeau is too busy.

I'd like to find a granite with creams, whites, taupes, maybe bits of gold, garnet. Please post pics if you have them. A picture is worth 1000 words!

Sounds like you really need a quartz, not a granite

you can't look at pics online anyway as each granite supplier will have slabs that look completely different. go to some suppliers near you and just look. there are so many choices out there and they need to be seen in person.

Oooh...nice pics everyone. Alexamd, your kitchen probably is the closest to mine as far as lighting goes and that granite doesn't look too dark at all. I like your backsplash too. Is that slate? I received my 12x12 sample of Cambria Bradford on Thu. My daughter (who never likes the same thing as me) actually liked it too. I took it with me to 2 more granite suppliers Fri so I could compare granites to it. All the ones I've liked are pretty dark. I gave my layout to a fabricator to get a quote on sapphire brown just to get an idea on the granite. Unfortunately, there aren't many places here that handle Cambria anymore because the company won't allow anyone in NC to fabricate it but them (in their facility in Charlotte). Presumably there's not enough money in just measuring, templating and installation to make it worth the local guys' time. I ordered a sample door from Scherr's yesterday. I should have done that a long time ago. I'm hoping it will darken up faster if I set it in the sun.

Everything is looking great so far! Love your cabinets and obviously, that granite is stunning. Add me to the club on finding the backsplash decision to be very daunting. My granite is pretty busy, and initially I was all over the place regarding what I wanted, from plain subway to crackle to accent pieces to...well you get the idea. We finally settled on plain, quite plain, and I am happy with the choice. We went with 3x12 porcelain tile with the thinnest grout lines possible. In contrast with you, I was fine with it steering more contemporary, and was actually looking for that with the shape I selected. In reality though, I don't think that it looks so contemporary, but your opinion may differ.

Just logged on to look at some pictures and saw your post; couldn't help but reply as we have similar kitchens. I've ordered natural cherry, shaker style cabinets for my wide galley kitchen; 15 foot one side, 18 foot the other. I do have one painted cabinet (looks like a china cabinet) along the short side wall; same paint as the island in another part of the kitchen. I'm using soapstone on the perimeter (galley) countertops; either Santa Barbara or Leathered Julia and Red Montana polished granite on the island top. I've DEBATED these decisions for months!!! I hate to add another option for your consideration but I truly LOVE the natural cherry with the soapstone.

I have natural cherry cabinets and verde peacock granite ( which is very similar to Uba Tuba). I used BM's Hillcrest Tan #1078 in my kitchen and dining area. I like the way it brings out the gold/brown splotches in the counter and I think it plays nice with the pale green colors my backsplash tile and my dining table. I think the wall color also makes the natural cherry look fabulous. It is very hard to capture the color adequately with my camera. In the first picture the color is pretty acurate. The bumped out area to the right in the photo is actually painted BM Capilano Bridge. It is only a shade or two lighter than Hilllcrest Tan but looks much lighter in the picture because of the bright morning sun. I had a sample of River White and it stained when I tested it with ketchup, mustard/tumeric etc.

If you are going light you should also consider quartz as it will be more stain resistant compared to light granites. And if you don't want man-made -consider quartzite.

Colonial cream or white? Slabs vary in the amount of black.

Check Bianco Romano, among others. But the best idea is to go visit a stone yard (or several!) with a cabinet door sample, and see what speaks to you. (It's a lot of fun, too!)

You really do need to see them in person, as they vary so much. For example, while alexamorrie says her sample of River White stained, mine does not. Being a natural product, there is a ton of variability.

Sorry, I misled you all. I have been to the local fabricator a few times already and brought samples home. My choices of course are limited to what they have in stock. That's why I was looking at pictures for other ideas. I can travel to a larger warehouse but they wouldn't have samples for me to bring home. Titanium looked gorgeous but is way too dark. Madre Perl turned too gray. River white works but I guess my objection is that it seems so much like the Corian I am replacing. Does anyone have River White leathered? The quartz I've seen looked like plastic in the lighter colors but perhaps I need to revisit them.

What's the matter with the Corian? There's nothing about it that can't be fixed with the right guy? All of the granties you are considering will be busier, stain more, and need more upkeep than Corian. You may not need to change a thing to have what you say you want.

it doesn't sound like you have many choices at that fabricator. how about a hd or lowes? they have all their granites up on a board and they have samples to take home. if you search for msi, it has a list of colors of granites and their density but it won't matter if you can't get it right? or do you have a way for the fabricator to order something for you.

Sophie, I am replacing the cabinets. Right now I have Corian on the island and laminate on the perimeter. I considered re-using the Corian and finding a compliment for the perimeter but believe it or not, hubby said "do it all the same". Probably good advice in the long run.

With your stated goals, Corian or quartz is probably where you need to be focusing your search. You could keep the island top, and find a coordinating color in a quartz or a solid surface for the perimeter. Sounds like a win/win for the budget, as well as for being green and recycling!
