I had no problem with Palatine. They shipped exactly as expected and were in very good shape on arrival. You'll be so happy you ordered when you see the size of the roses they send. Hortico sent very small roses but there were no problems with shipping. In fact, the only roses that did dry out in shipping were actually from Jackson and Perkins. It wasn't their fault, the post office lost track of them for a while and then the box showed up in Texas for some reason. I think it took two weeks to get them and they were very dry by then. JP had already sent me replacements by the time they arrived. I went ahead and soaked and planted them anyway and all the roses did well. So even if something does get stuck in customs I doubt it would kill a healthy bareroot rose. And I think any company would offer replacements if it did happen.

shapiro, Many mail order & online nurseries do ship to Canada, and I think that you will find that each one has a different minimum order and policy. I have ordered successfully from a number of various companies. Don't forget that you may have to pay duties on goods coming into Canada. All plants entering Canada require a Phytosanitary Certificate, which varies in cost, and is arranged by the company from which you order, and is performed by the country's agricultural department (in the US, this would be the USDA, and vice versa in Canada, this is the CFIA). Different plants have different requirements for import; it also varies by country of origin. Some plants are also restricted by CITES, so you would also need to check with them to see if any of the plants that you are ordering are on the list (although it is unlikely). http://www.cites.org/ Some plants will need an import permit and again, it varies as to where they are coming from (country of export, and country of propagation), which can be obtained from the CFIA. *Please note that import requirements can vary by province. What I've observed lately: seems to be less of them, or they are hiding better. Not just in soil, have seen them hiding in leaf crevices. Saw one the other day, looked a little bigger, and greenish, and more "soft." Leaf damage : spots are whitish, with tiny black spots on them. Does this help? Although I've seen less of bugs, still seeing more leaf damage, so they are there. One plant's new leaves are curled, and there are no blooms. Rhizo, definitely not sowbugs-which look like pillbugs, right? The book I have is an organic guide to gardening, lists mostly pests of veggies, with no pics of pests. Flying blind here- but been able to identify many other bugs.

We border the county forest preserve and about 5 yrs ago someone dumped Marcus. Sadly, this is an all too frequent occurrence around here with cats, kittens, dogs and even litters of puppies. But we were lucky and after setting the live trap and watching it for 2 weeks, Marcus finally tripped it and he's been with us ever since. Michelle
