Hi Christine, My understanding is that true Passiflora quadrangularis is impossible in California--it's a true tropical and can't tolerate the cool nights. I attached a link at the bottom which mentions this. However, if a hybrid is of interest there are some that might be worth trying. P. 'Purple Tiger' is the one usually seen in California. It's P. phoenicia x P. quadrangularis. I have P. 'Preciosa', which is P. macrocarpa x P. alata. P. macrocarpa is often considered a synonym of P. quadrangularis (see link at bottom). I don't have anything rooted at the moment, but cuttings root in water. I started some about a week ago. If you are interested in trying that hybrid I could send something when they root, or send something unrooted. I can probably help you out with Dahlia imperialis. I have some cuttings rooted/sprouted. I've neglected them and they should have been planted already. However I think they are still OK. I hope... If they are really that fresh no pretreatment might be necessary but since I wouldn't believe everything a seller says I'd probably just go ahead and soak them, 24-48 hrs. A lot of people use the paper towel method for seeds. Personally I don't like it but it's very easy. Just fold a paper towel and moisten it. Made sure it's not soggy and place your seeds on the towel and fold it over on them then slide the paper towel into a baggie, seal and place somewhere warm. Check periodically to see if they are germinating. Once you see a root emerge plant them in soil. If they germinate in the bag and you leave them too long the root will grow into the paper. If that happens just rip the paper around the root, don't try to remove it. The paper will disintigrate in the soil. Make sure the paper towel doesn't dry out. Good luck.
