Hibiscus meraukensis

This is actually a native here but it comes up all over my place during
the wet season. So it doesn't need any looking after. It's one of my
nicest "weeds".

I'm a big fan of hibiscus... So are the beetles, amazing how fast they find them. The local gardens had a wonderful H superbum that I managed to snatch seeds from, fortunately as then they chopped it out after flowering. They do like their rose gardens, though. :-(

I am looking at a monster of one now its next door a big red flower.
its 4-5ft above the roof line.

It could be 20-30years old a few years back it was butchered and now its a monster.

Alison, I like Hibiscus too, and all the related ones like Gossypium, Abelmoschus, Alyogyne but not Urena which is an annoying weed. For us, no amount of "liking" will help roses survive here, so I guess the Hibiscus are safe.

Keith, H. meraukensis is an annual, so your 'next door' one would be a different species.
