Comments (5)Thank you both for responding (digdirt - thanks for responding multiple times on different posts)! I had a few hours of free time Monday night and I transplanted all 10 plants. I may have waited a bit too long as the roots had grown through the bottom of the cut paper towel tubes they were originally planted in. I was able to keep the soil together for 5 of them, the soil fell off the first one I transplanted and the two tubes with the multiple plants. I handled them carefully by the leaves (not the stem) and managed to keep the roots very intact. They seem to be doing well, most have visibly grown since Tuesday morning. Anything else I should do or look out for? Thanks again for helping me out with my new passion....See MoreDo I absolutely need a grow light to start wave petunias from seed?
Comments (5)Party makes a good point that if you can't have them outside until June then you have time to grow from seed. That sounds quite late to me as most of the zone 5 garden clubs want theirs by 1st week of May. But if you can't plant them out until June then you won't have the full basket look until well into the heat of mid to late July. The full basket look that you buy at most nurseries has been growing inside in a greenhouse for 45-60 days before going out for sale. " I want to know if I planted a couple of wave petunias in the side of a hanging basket, through a coco liner, would that also be problematic" Yes. They don't hang well and the weight pulls them out plus it causes a big drain hole for the water to drain out too quickly. And if you want to plant in holes in the sides of a hanging planter then you need to use sphangum moss not a pressed cocofiber liner. You want to plant them at the outer edges of the top so they drape over the sides and hang down the sides. Dave...See MoreI would like to grow some succulents from seed
Comments (7)I've only done cactus. It's pretty simple. I use cactus mix doesn't need to be amended with anything. I put the soil in the microwave for 5 mins. Let it cool down. Then set the tiny seeds on top. I barely cover them. If at all tbh:). I use a plastic ziplock container. Spray them really well with drinking water. Then cover them with plastic wrap and a rubber band. Put them in one of my bathroom windows. I use this window because it's frosted. I don't want to burn them. I don't do anything special. No heat mats. If I lived in a cold climate I would use one. After about 6 months I transplant, and let them dry out for a day or two. Then water. This is July26, 2016 about two weeks after planting.
