Where to buy home accessories...
Comments (19)Kelley, If you are headed to Atlanta, how about the Designer Warehouse. Here are my notes: 1-75 Exit 252B/Howell Mill Rd Open 10 -5 off the Howell Mill just north of downtown proper (the second to last exit going south on I-75 before Warehouse or something similar. Go east on Howell Mill, then left on Collier (2nd light?). It's a mile or two down this road. I have been most of the routes that are mentioned in this thread e.g. ZGallery, Home Goods, Marshalls. What made me rethink that was a visit to RiverRat's house. Her beautiful home was decorated with memories, it seemed as though everything had history. Like the beautifully framed comb and brush set. "Oh, that's DH's great grandmother's". What an interesting poster "Oh, that's a poster DH got years ago when he went to the play in NY". And on and on. Since then I have tried to decorate with meaning for me and for my family. As an example, I came across the certificate I received when I was certified as a Docent from the Salvador Dali Museum in St Petersburg. I had it framed and made it the center piece of a grouping along with all my Dali books, an enamel picture I got from the Dali Museum in Spain, my docent name tag, and a collectors bottle of Dali perfume. My brother visited a few weeks ago and picked up a rock that was split open to reveal quartz. I reminded him that when we were kids fishing in the Gulf, dad would pick up a gnarly rock and say "you never know, there could be beauty in this rock so don't judge by the outside". He did remember and it brought a smile to his face....See MoreFavorite place for accessories
Comments (46)Lynn in NM - There's a fabulous store on Campus Corner called Antique Garden. They have the most adorable coaster sets with photos of Norman, the university and campus corner. I have every series (I think it's up to 5 now ... with four coasters in each series). The soonermagic sign above my kitchen window came from there. They have posters of old football programs that are nicely done. These are on hubby's wishlist for the gameroom. They have great custom upholstery ... I'll be getting the dining room end chairs there sometime soon. And, I've purchased a rug there. Walked to campus corner for lunch, and hubby had to walk the four blocks home with a sizeable rug thrown over his shoulder. Most of our accessories, however, are picked up on our travels....See MoreIn search of outdoor furniture.
Comments (42)I was in the market this spring for two super comfortable chairs and ottoman for my deck. I didn't want to pay a lot of money, of course, but was willing to pay for comfort and I was not going to buy online w/o being able to sit on it! So I checked out BedBathBeyond, HD and Lowes. HD (only) had a set that was terrific. It is part of a Martha Stewart collection called Charlottetown. I bought it online so I could select from a wider selection of available fabrics. If they didn't have that set, I would have ended up at a furniture store paying lots more money for sure. Total was $477 for two chairs and 1 ottoman (no tax/free shipping). I went with a non-Sunbrella fabric choice to save $100 or so plus I liked that color the best of all the fabric choices. The set is faux wicker, which was fine for me. If I was doing much larger areas, that would be add up a lot and a lot of assembly!!! I also don't think you should get eating table & chairs to identically match seating sets. Seems like it might be too matchy-matchy, but it might depend on the particular style and your actual physical layout. I was in HD last week and the outdoor seating department was being taken apart :-( I also purchased 2 awesome cushion covers for rain. I love them. Easy to use and good pvc-lined fabric, really blocks rain and no mildew inside if left on extended periods. special ventilation. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Veranda-Patio-Lounge-Chair-Cover/8207328/product.html...See MoreOutdoor furniture, budget, etc
Comments (12)IMO, sling is the most comfortable outdoor furniture. It "breathes", so it doesn't get hot like cushions; it's lightweight and often stacks; and it's easy to clean. I have these chairs as my deck dining chairs. I absolutely LOVE them. They are SO comfortable for everyone: not too small for bigger people, not too big for smaller people…perfect size. A couple of things bout them, though: they are put together when you get them, you do it with an allen wrench. It's very easy to do, and go slow at first so you really get how to fully screw in all the screws. If you do that, they're VERY solid chairs. They do recommend putting a coat of linseed oil on them. Better yet, I put a couple of coats of Spar polyurethane (marine-grade varnish). I did replace one of the original chairs I bought four years ago this year because I hadn't done a good job with a couple of the screws on that one, so it had become wobbly. the other three are solid as the day I got them and put them together. The sling has held up incredibly well, which is unusual for sling chairs in this price range. I would say, though, that if you go with sling, invest in the well-made brands. to make a chair comfortable for movie watching, you need ottomans on which to put one's feet up. http://www.wayfair.com/Outdoor-Interiors-Sling-and-Eucalyptus-Stackable-Arm-Chair-10555BW-10555TN-L6847-K~OHW1021.html?refid=MX2648495267-BPA49-OHW1021_7038909&device=c&ptid=51a7c2e82388f639&PiID%5B%5D=7038909...See MoreMtnRdRedux
