Planning Kitchen Reno--Need help with new arrangement!!!
Comments (3)Wow thank you so much for your thoughtful work, comments and ideas, mama goose!! I knew there were plenty of other options I hadn't considered, so I really appreciate your thoughts. The gray wall where the fridge and range currently are is load-bearing--we have talked to a GC about removing it and adding a beam in its place. It will need to be engineered but we are willing to see that through. The yellow cut out wall does have air return going to it. Not sure exactly what would need to be done to reroute that. Maybe keeping partial of that wall would be nice to give that bathroom separation. I really like that idea, herbflavor! I wouldn't mind getting rid of the small dining nook. We wouldn't have another dining area, but it really isn't big enough to be comfortable anyway. We are casual enough to go with the island seating I think! I'll have to run that idea by my SO. I also really like the sink on the island to make the back wall more functional. Corner pantry would be great! I do agree changing the slider out for a single door would be super nice to extend the counter space....The slider is only a few years old so not sure my SO will go for it but I definitely want to look into that! That would make such a difference....See MoreNeed Help Making Tiny Kitchen More Functional
Comments (97)I think I like the idea of maintaining a 15 inch landing space to the left of the stove. For one thing, it gives me a convenient place to put my Instant Pot (yes I have WAY too many gadgets!) The other thing it does is keep the prep space mostly under the window. I'm coming around on the benefits of a 30-inch sink cab. It allows a larger sink, I can put a cutting board on it and use it as prep space if necessary....all good things. And I saw this cool hack where you can make one 15 inch door into a trash pullout, and the other side can be a regular door (or, I guess, another pullout.) I like that! I think I'm going to start another thread seeing if people might be able to share pictures of their off-center sinks. Seeing this will help me visualize it a bit better. Hi, Rebunky! I'd love to go to Hawaii some day. It is very hard to find an affordable 30-inch, counter-depth fridge, I'm finding! There's the Fisher Paykel, but I worry about reliability and it's at the tippy-top of my budget. There's 33-inch wide counter depth fridges, but at that point, why not just go to 36 inches, you know? I'm not sure if a contractor can build a recessed space for the fridge because that wall goes into a stairwell, but I won't be sure until I get someone in here to look at it. So, it's just another compromise for me to consider -- overly big counterdepth fridge, or correctly proportioned standard fridge that might jut into work space? Sorry that I'm using you all as my constant sounding boards! The limitations of a small space can be frustrating but I find this enjoyable to talk about....See MoreHow to maximize living room sitting space. Help on layout and type.
Comments (3)There are two posts on this, and I'm not reading the comments on the other one. So off the top of my head in general I would say this ..... when you have a long room, break it up into TWO areas. That way you can pull your couch up closer to face the TV to take up what is now wasted space, and still have another space behind it for another seating arrangement ... depending on how much space you have that may be two chairs with a small table between or it may be four chairs in a circle around a round coffee table....See MoreKitchen Reno - Please help! Comments (19)I did not have to choose between an island and a peninsula, but I did have to consider between a couple of different plans that we came up with. I wanted more counter space and storage. I calculated how many Linear feet of counter space each option gave me, and estimated how well it could be used. Then, I calculated how much actual storage I would have (linear feet) in uppers and lowers. Then, I also figured exactly where all items ( and I mean ALL items) would be stored, and which configuration would allow me to store them best. I had to find places for spices, Tupperware, garbage, bread machine, cookbooks, pantry items, dishes, cutlery, placemats, dish cloths and towels, pots, oversized plates & bowls, etc. I found it worked best for me to organize my kitchen into work zones. Lots to plan around. I got rid of anything i didn’t need and/ or seldom used, and I used ideas from Garden Web/ Houzz a lot!...See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
