First, I love your house! I drool over woodwork like that. Next, your foyer flushmount is the same fixture I have twice in my hallway and I absolutely hate them and want to replace them. Because it's a hallway with standard 8' ceilings I'll use flushmount. Now maybe I'm not understanding something based on the other comments here, but I would do a hanging light over your table and I'd definitely do a hanging light in the foyer with your ceiling there being so high. My inclination would not be to go to a modern looking fixture in either place, as I love those that would be more in keeping with the wonderful period of the house. Even though I do like the first one you featured. You have something special with that house that is not found in the newer houses, no matter how pretty they may be. I drool over antique fixtures like THIS, and THIS, and THIS, and THIS, And THIS French deco, and most certainly THIS if you can afford something like that (I can't) or find it for less -- I've seen similar on there for less, ... and judging from the number of bids on many of them I'm far from alone. Of course you can and should use a modern looking fixture if that's what you reallly want. :-)

I have three Aladdin Light Lifts for a 17 foot ceiling. The fixtures are about 40 lbs each, though they have lifts that can handle much more, or less. Installation was not complicated, but having adequate work room in the attic immediately above was certainly nice.

^ agree with above - a two story foyer is going to need a significant fixture FWIW there are lots of formulas online that help with calculating fixture size in a foyer - here’s an example: Step 1: Measure the dimensions of your foyer’s length and width in feet Step 2: Combine the sum of the two numbers for your ideal fixture diameter (in inches) Step 3: Take the height of your ceiling in feet Step 4: Multiply the number of feet by the ceiling height by 2.5 and 3 inches to determine your ideal light fixture height For example, if your room measures 10’d x 10’w x 10’h, you would follow these steps as so: Step 1: 10-foot length x 10-foot width Step 2: 10 + 10 = 20. 20 inches will be our ideal diameter. Step 3: 10-foot ceilings Step 4: 10 x 2.5 = 25, and 10 x 3 = 30. 25” - 30” is ideal fixture height.

Wall color/flooring are mute - furniture, scale, your style and especially proportions (dining table, island, etc) should drive your decisions. Wiring is really the only urgency. Because you will be making decisions for your entire home and with the commitment and costs involved, suggest taking this time to really do your homework. I understand your apprehension, we only redid our kitchen and just choosing for one room was hard enough. Another idea is if you have a good lighting store nearby; talk to a salesperson and they will make recommendations and you’ll be able to see choices all in one location.
