Food preserving

Curt D'Onofrio

We all know vacuum packing food preserves it without the need for a refrigerator, unfournately vacuum packing the correct way requires energy, at least the way my grandfather preserved his peaches in mason jars

So, years ago i tried this experiment

1) Place any food in a tupperware

2) Place a very flexible plastic over the food. (really make sure no pin holes exist in said plastic). I used Sarah wrap

3) Place water on top of plastic. The water has weigh, so as it pushes down on the plastic, the air between the plastic and food is pushed out. A sort of vacuum packing requiring no energy (other than energy of gravity...but gravity is free)

The experiment worked on a piece of bread for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, bread not stale, nor no green spots

The experiment worked, but should i be worried about botanism or something else ? THX
