Help me manage weeds, we're getting chocked!!
Comments (6)I have to join Nick on this question. I've pulled all the weeds in the area and put down enough mulch to supposedly keep the weed seeds from sprouting. It seems to be working because the weeds I'm getting now seem to be "grasses" sending out runners to spread to new areas. I'm about ready to spray the #$%^ things! I'm also dealing with either monkey/mondo grass or something that resembles it. It seems to have a bulb with roots, similar to green onions, but it also spreads by rhizomes...and if I don't get all three, it's more than happy to pop back up. I've figured out that the best method is to just dig it up and make sure to get the roots. Can anyone tell me what it is and if there's any hope? I have a friend that's silly enough to want more monkey grass, so I can pass that patch along...but there's more waiting in the wings....See MorePlease vote for our cork -- we're stumped (ha!)
Comments (33)Can I still Vote??? My vote if for D ... I like the (hint of) lines. It seams like it would work the best with all the other lines in your house and not compeat. It would also look less busy for your granite counters when you do those. Granite does tend to be busy... but you could always not use granite. we are in the middle of picking cork flooring for the upstairs. I haven't picked a company or a color yet. Our flooring will be a DIY project Good Luck...See MoreAnother dimmer question
Comments (16)Verify that the power is off. There is a rectangular quick release tab next to round hole that the wire is pushed in. A small jewlers screw driver will fit in the hole. A heavy duty paper clip will work but a small screw driver works best. Push it into the rectangular hole. When you have resistance, push a little harder and pull on the wire. Another simple way to remove it is to twist the switch back and forth while holding the wire taught in the other hand, one wire at a time. If your wire is #14, which is typical for areas as your switch is locted, it will come out very easy when twisting the switch (because it does not make a good connection, see below). If you use this method be sure to cut enough of the wire off to remove any scarring before wiring the dimmer. When stripping the wire, remove the insulation without scarring the wire. Scarring promotes heat in the scarred location. Heat is not good in your wiring. QUICK-CONNECT (STAB IN) CONNECTIONS, THOUGH UL APPROVED, CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN USING #14 GUAGE 15 AMP WIRE AND ALSO CAN BE DANGEROUS WHEN USING #12 GUAGE 20 AMP WIRE WITH HEATING LOADS (space heaters). I STRONGLY SUGGEST TO EVERYONE TO REMOVE ALL QUICK-CONNECT (STAB IN) CONNECTIONS FROM THEIR HOME. IF YOUR OUTLETS ARE QUICK-CONNECT, THE FIRST OUTLET CONNECTED IN THE CIRCUIT WILL DRAW THE ENTIRE LOAD OF THE CIRCUIT THROUGH IT'S QUICK-CONNECT CONNECTION. TYPICALLY TWO BEDROOMS ARE ON A CIRCUIT. IF 1 SPACE HEATER IS RUNNING ON A 15 AMP CIRCUIT, 12.5 AMPS PLUS ANY LIGHTS, FANS, TVs, ETC..... IS BEING DRAWING THROUGH THE FIRST QUICK-CONNECT OUTLET. I APOLOGIZE FOR GOING ON AND ON, BUT I CAN NOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF DELETING QUICK-CONNECTS FROM ALL HOMES ENOUGH. I have 33 years of electrical experience following 6 years in the US Navy. I am a master excel and word VBA programmer. I am not trying to brag, I'm just stating my qualifications in hopes you will listen. Peace to All :)...See MoreWe're almost there! Sorry, but another BS question too. Pics!
Comments (34)cindaintx, Wow, thanks for noticing the windows. Quite a lot of thought needs to go into these things, doesn't it? We brought home a couple of tile boards, and think a 3X6 tile would fit there. Maybe a 1/4 round on top?? It will be a few months before we do anything. We really like the look of NO BS, and since we don't actually live at this home, we can be careful not to get the walls dirty. We'll see, and I'll be sure to post, when anything else happens! Window treatments are next! Probably just horizonal mini-blinds. Can't put a valance on that window because the corner cabinet almost meets the frame! Peach, I'm still liking that dark brown for the bottom row. It's not too "dated"? Thanks, ALL, for the kind comments. I posted on HGTV (rate my space" once, and got VERY critical remarks. Won't go back there! LOL...See Morelaughablemoments
