Thanks, fruitnut :-) I figured of all folks, you'd have this tree, lol! Really glad to hear this. This is the same opinion I got at Clausen's. They're always very honest about their opinions - they're a 2nd or 3rd generation nursery and have a wide variety of citrus and lots of experience with them. He gave me a 2 thumb's up on the Cara Cara and said he actually thought they were better than Washington, too, and that says a lot. Plus, they're very pretty, and great in a salad. I bought a Moro last year from Clausen's because of all 3 blood oranges, this one is the very best for our area according to Clausen's. Very dependable, gets sweet and very red. Much more consistent than Tarocco or Sanguinello. Mine hasn't flushed or blossomed, yet, so I'm going to pinch it and the Bearss Lime back a wee bit to force some flush. After this cold blast we're getting, though. then fertilize. I also picked up a Page mandarin and a Gold Nugget. Again, great, great reports on both of those. Clausen's also recommends Pixie, which I bought last year and is just beginning to send out little blossoms, so I'll have my first crop this year. My Clementine has about 15 little fruits, plus one ripe one I'm about ready to pluck to try. Plus picked up a few of Poms - Wonderful, Sweet, Phil's Sweet, and Pink Satin (Pink Ice). And I've got 3 more on order from Raintree - Eversweet, Parfianka and Red Silk. I needed something to fill in my hillside right below my citrus trees, where I have quite a bit of lavender and rosemary growing, and needed some pops of color. So, instead of just some Mediterranean ornamental, I opted for Poms which are ornamental and provide some great fruit! All told now, I've got about 60 different fruit trees and berry bushes. We'll be sharing with our neighbors and family for sure :-) Patty S.

Thanks, Dan. They did have a Cara Cara and Gorden gave me a 2 thumb's up on the taste for the Cara Cara. He said he thought they actually were better than the Washington. I did grab a Page, only 2 left, and no fruit, but lots of buds, so I'll have ripe fruit next year. Also got a Golden Nugget which does have some ripe fruit. It was a toss up between the Page and the Minneola. Page won out because I really like that tangerine taste. Gorden suggested a Pixie last year, and I have that planted, but no fruit set yet. I'm going to pinch that and my Bearss lime, which also hasn't put out any flowers or really any flush - sort of surprised about that. All the grapefruits I got last hear are going nuts with flowers right now. The Melogold has so many flowers I'm going to have to pinch off some of the fruit, or the poor little thing will simply topple over. Same with the Cocktail and the Rio Red. And, walked out with a couple of Poms - Sweet and a Wonderful. Yumm. I'll have the best fruit salads in a couple of years, can hardly wait! Patty S.

I think it depends on what environment(s) or climate your tree will be living in. Not knowing too much about Michigan's climate (I assume this because of the MSU part of your - Michigan State University?) I may not be the most qualified to answer this. I'll just assume for the most part the tree will live inside for most of the year- 6-8months?. If this correct, AL's mix is probably perfect for your tree. AL's mix is best for indoor/outdoor trees spending most of there time in partial or some shade when outside(around 6hours of direct sun). If your tree is exposed to much more light(10hours+) you will find AL's mix is not Ideal for your tree. It will dry out too quickly. As with any soil type, its a balancing act. Not all soils are good at everything. So, as long as you have an indoor/outdoor tree and when outdoor it receives medium about of direct light it should thrive in that mix. The depth of the root crown is not low enough. It's probably not enough to require a re-pot but, that's probably the best thing to do. If you don't want to re-pot you can push some soil up around the crown to cover it, creating a small pyramid type shape. As far as fertilization rates Its probably best to fertilize once a week and allow runoff, and in between watering with no fertilizer allow for minimum runoff. This way, for the most part the fertilizer is not washed away on in between waterings. Of course watch the tree and adjust as necessary.

Thanks. I'm not sure how long the tree has been in the container. I purchased it last Fall as a rehab project from a local nursery. The tree had a black spot fungus under the leaves the nursery was treating and they sold it to me for $49 "as is" knowing it may have some issues. The tree has done very well indoors over the winter. I've been using liquid seaweed to supplement the monthly low doses of acidic fertilizer they recommended. My plan is to do a light root prune and transplant to a larger pot this Spring when I move it outdoors. Hopefully i won't lose too many fruit as it reacclimatizes.
