Its funny I was thinking if any of you know some aging hippie packrats they probably have a bottle cutter. When I was young making glasses out of bottles was popular and there was a cheap cutter that scored the bottle and then you dangled this thing in and hit it on the inside I think. I have a crafty friend a bit older than I who keeps everything and I was going to ask her if she has one! Its nice to know that they still can be gotten - tho the one in the picture is more elaborate than what I remember. It looks like a beautiful project. Good luck and post pics.

There was some dreadful wine-type beverage I purchased last holiday season that came in a frosted bottle - but I wouldn't drink a lot of it. I had trouble getting the lights in. I should have used a larger drill bit like the one suggested here. The first directions I came across suggested 1/2 inch. That's a tad small. I found a string of 20 LED lights at Big Lots just before Christmas. I thought the number was about right, and it had a plug on only one end. (many have plugs on both in case you want to assemble a long string of lights.) I saved the label as it was kind of a joke between DH and I, and he passed away after I purchased the wine, but before I made the light. The label is a re-print of an old bicycle poster with a naked woman holding a bicycle, flying through the sky.

I second Pllog. You can definitely do this. Particularly if this is a sentimental piece. I have seen armoire conversions of this type in magazines. I'm not familiar with the brand, or its original intended purpose -- some are not intended to hold much weight at all, and a couple of cases of wine, glasses, pulls etc. -- plus the shelves themselves etc. -- will weigh over 100 pounds. I'd get out everything you want to put into it and take a good look at it as a reality check for bracing needs. You certainly don't want to damage your piece! So consider the weight and any bracing. Also consider how the weight is distributed. If it is distributed in an new way, for example, if you put the heavy mirror in the back and heavy wine at the rear back, the unit may not balance right. This is not a reason not to do it, this is just so you don't get caught off guard.

Thanks, countryatheart. Funny enough, my installation is scheduled for today - time given was 10-2. I called a few granite installers today and no luck until I called Lowes. Spoke to someone and he said, yes they have it in their mill work department. I hightailed it to Lowes and spent the next 20+ minutes(the person I spoke to on the phone was on break) talking to several people - 3 who did not even have a clue. We walked all around that huge store looking at shelving bracket after shelving bracket. I gave the guys this look like... if this is supposed to support bracket, why is it displayed with wood shelves. Plus they were those flimsy looking decorated brackets. Finally, we found Stanley angle brackets. If I had my choice, I would have purchased Centerline brackets - but no time and no one had them locally.. And to think all this work for an item that cost less than $5. It makes we wonder about granite installers. I spoke to several and many said it was not needed even after I explained the width of the counter and the overhang. I went to several home stores and after showing pictures and explaining what was needed, most did not have it or pointed me to a tiny little bag of brackets - you know, the ones used for doors.
