Old-Growth Heart pine paneling -- reused as flooring?

Hi,

My new 1939 colonial has a family room and foyer with heart pine paneling. It's such a dark (seriously dark) space, but the wood grain is so lovely. It hasn't been coated with shellac. It feels like it's either waxed...or perhaps some light poly, but I can't see any drip/brush marks anywhere.

I stopped by an architectural salvage warehouse and the artisans there suggested that I use it as flooring since it is so good. The board size widths alternate, 3.5", 5.5", 7.5" with strips of half-round molding between each board. The walls are 8' tall and the living room is 12.5' x 21.5' with three windows and three doorways. Still, it looks like a lot of boards.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks.
