Electric water heater pipe nipple removal

40 gal whirlpool electric water heater. I just changed out the solid copper line to it with flex braided connections. The hot water connection kept dripping slightly after I attached the flex line. Upon closer inspection, the threads on the tank nipple at the top are damaged from what appears to be galvanic corrosion. So when I tighten the nut on the flex line, it drips. I put plumbers putty on the threads and tightened the nut more than you are supposed to, in order to see if I can get it to stop. It's a very slow drip. Nothing worrisome.

I wondered though, is it possible to get that hot water nipple off the tank and put a new one in?

This tank is about 16 months old and is on softened water.
