Ideas as how to work around a 32" counter top in a 1930s kitchen
Comments (15)I bet the cabinets are built in place. Moving/removing might destroy them. You may end up saving the doors and having new boxes made. Then they can be any height you want. The sink will be a problem if you don't replace/raise the window, too. You need that sink for the feel of the kitchen if you want to keep the look of the cabs. It will probably cost the same to just buy new cabinets. But that doesn't solve the sink problem in the same foot print. And if you change the foot print then you've opened a new can of worms. Changing the window size would probably be the best thing to do....See Morehidden flip-out electrical outlet meet code for around sink-wall?
Comments (6)Yes, I'll definitely check w/ my town's code. Just planning ahead... Another idea, based on histokitch's kitchen sill (see picture below): - putting sillite on the window sill: See how the window sill is almost flushed w/ the countertop? I could put the sillite there, yes? I like to have a flat countertop w/out any edges to go around. I'm getting stainless steel countertop integrated with a stainless sink, so it's just 1 piece w/ no edges (oooh, I couldn't stand my drop-in sink in my previous home, couldn't get the edges/rim clean enough). LOVE your kitchen! (I'm also having 30" countertops.) Sillite: Kinda like jsweenc's kitchen, except of standing vertical, the outlets would be laying down flat. Scroll 2/3 down to see the picture (after the 2 pictures of the island sillites) (I can't post the picture for some reason.) Here is a link that might be useful: jsweenc's kitchen w/ sillites...See MoreBeware of explosive cracks with Dupont Corian counter tops. (No heat!)
Comments (118)We have had almost the exact same issue with our corian. The builder wouldn't even come to check it only went by the pictures we sent. Then blamed it all on something "very hot" had to do that! I can tell you now, it did not. There is also a large dip or warp over the dishwasher. When we pulled it out there is absolutely no heat barrier or insulation to protect the corian. The installer also never sealed the sink basin. Which we found out the hard way when our sink overflowed. The installer/builder takes no blame Won't even come to look or tell us what we can do. There is a ten year warranty on the corian, we've been fighting this for over two years now. The ten year warranty will be up in September of this year. What can we do???...See MoreLayout Help - Deepen Peninsula Sink Counter
Comments (50)Be careful...29" deep cabinets won't be particularly useful unless you can get drawer glides that are long enough to handle 5 extra inches. I know you can for 27" cabinets. You would be better off doing what I show...27" deep cabinets (which I'm pretty sure KraftMaid has). In my layout, you have 2 drawer bases in addition to the sink base and trash pullout. In fact, I would check to see if KraftMaid offers a trash pullout that opens from the front and the back. If not, could your GC modify it to work that way? You might also check to see if KraftMaid has sink base cabinets that open that way as well...then you could (1) easily access the plumbing and (2) easily access items in the back....See Morermtdoug
