What caused this damage to my shrub: voles, rabbits, weed-eater?
Comments (8)"It's a Chicago Fire Burning Bush. Please don't throw tomatoes, because EVERYONE has at least one fat and tall burning bush in their front yard within a 10 mile radius of my house..." It's your property and your decision, but think of it this way...If you saw many of your fellow motorists throwing out trash, would you also throw yours out? Having a Euonymus alatus in your yard is actually a little worse than throwing out litter, because litter doesn't exponentially reproduce, but, like littering on an already heavily littered highway, I guess one could make the excuse. Your state's Department of Environmental Conservation has given that plant a rating of "Very High" for its invasiveness (environmental damage) rating. I agree with Ken, your little dead voles didn't do that damage. Maybe you should club your rabbits. I can't tell if the damaged branches are coming from the main trunk or from ground level. If from the trunk, yes, I'd prune at the trunk (just outside the branch collar). If from the ground, I'd prune at or just slightly above ground level (IF I was going to keep the plant)....See MoreDwarf Japanese Maple Damage from snow
Comments (9)Impossible to see how much damage occurred with the snowpile still blocking the tree and the leaves still in place. As carefully as you can, remove the snow and gently comb out the remaining leaves. Then, cleanly cut back any torn limbs/stubs to the next growth point. You can then report back with clearer photos or make your own decision as to save or replace. If the tree is very misshapen or the damage severe, you might want to consider replacing. The tree will fill out some but probably not to the same attractiveness or fullness it had before the damage. Weeping laceleaf maples like yours are frequently prone to snow damage, leaves still in place or not. The dense, layered branching habits of these little trees is just very accommodating to accumulating pies of snow. In areas with heavy snowfalls, you will either need to prune to thin out the canopy or diligently remove the snow as it begins to accumulate to avoid the weight causing damage....See MoreDo all roof leaks cause mold?
Comments (2)Mold requires a certain moisture content and heat to grow. Wet insulation against wood will cause mold in warmth. If it's just wood that got wet and it will dry out with air movement, don't worry about it. Like said above, wait until Spring....See MoreWhat caused the water damage to the bathroom ceiling?
Comments (11)We've closed down that bathroom--I think actually it hasn't been used since the 16th, when I took those pics. I'm going to pressure DH to go ask the upstairs neighbor to run her shower for a while (I want to mark the edges of some of the bubbles, so we can compare). A few points people raised-- ⢠shower organizer hanging off the shower head--Our showerhead is on the opposite (non-bubbling) wall. ⢠tub spout--no tub. These are both stall showers. But to speak to the similar issue of moisture going through a uncaulked hole for a pipe--all the pipes are in the opposite wall, I'm certain. ⢠fan / ventilation: there isn't one; there's a window, which usually isn't opened during a shower. We can change that. (It's just that we've run showers in there for this long before, often, and this is a pretty sudden arrival. And he doesn't shower daily--more like weekly. (I know, I know.) ) â¢I really don't want to change the shower curtain to allow steam to escape around the edges--that's what's keeping The Kid from flooding out the guy downstairs w/ water that gets outside the shower enclosure. ⢠kind of paint: It's a latex made for bathrooms....See MoreRelated Professionals
